What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking an experienced and collaborative Assistant Medical Director (MD/DO) to support the clinical leadership and daily operations of the Baylor Health Center. This role provides direct patient care, assists with oversight of medical staff, and helps ensure high-quality, student-centered healthcare services. The ideal candidate is a licensed clinician with strong clinical judgment, a commitment to holistic student wellness, and the ability to lead in a dynamic university health environment. Responsibilities include supporting strategic initiatives, promoting best practices in clinical care, and fostering a culture of excellence, compliance, and compassionate service.
A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and three years of relevant work experience is required.
All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
- Maintain confidentiality and be reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice
- Demonstrate competency with, and knowledge of, electronic health records and computerized medical programs
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
- Monitor staff compliance with documentation requirements
- Possess proven clinical competence in providing out-patient procedures
- Demonstrate knowledge of counseling experience with patients on medical and/or psychological problems, preventive care
- Refer patients for medical and/or other treatment when appropriate or indicated
- Ability to consult with outside clinical providers and public health agencies in securing treatments for patients requiring services beyond those available at the Baylor University Student Health Center
- Demonstrate ability in all patient care, ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements
- Demonstrate ability to maintain professional affiliations, licenses, certifications, etc.
- Ongoing and periodic supervision of Advanced Practice Providers as per Texas Medical Board requirements
- Ongoing and periodic supervision of medical learners including, but not limited to, medical students, medical residents, nurse practitioner students and physician assistant students
- Provide strategic support to the Medical Director with scheduling, budget, and supervision of all personnel
- Assist with initiatives for Health Services, including patient education and outreach, improving clinic workflow and monitoring quality of care
- Serve as Chair for Quality Improvement Committee and Peer Review Committee to ensure alignment with all accreditation requirements in these domains including the ability to, with oversight of the Medical Director, develop and implement both FPPEs (Focused Professional Practice Evaluations) and OPPEs (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations) to address identified opportunities for health center staff in order to improve patient safety, improve patient outcomes, enhance health center staff education and reduce liability on the part of health center staff and Baylor University
- Responsible for professional development and research activities within the health center, including the procurement of health care related grants and other funding
- Along with the Medical Director and ADON for Accreditation work to support and maintain accreditation for the health center as needed based on AAAHC accreditation standards
- Oversee staff wellbeing initiatives and engage staff at the individual, small group and team level to create a fulfilling work environment and reduce staff burnout and turnover
- Participate in leadership meetings on behalf of the Medical Director when needed such as Division Leadership Team (DLT) in Student Life and Student Health and Wellness Directors to advance the Division and SHW initiatives
- Provide direct medical services to student patients, using standard of care best practices
- Exhibit an appreciation for intercultural engagement and the differing health needs for the students, faculty, and staff at Baylor University
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
- Ability to comply with university policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
