Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Residential Learning oversees Residential Learning Communities and academic initiatives, collaborating with campus partners to enhance student success and quality. This role involves leading departmental efforts in curriculum development, assessment, and other learning initiatives, while working closely with the Residence Education Leadership Team. This position supervises graduate assistants and reports to the Associate Director of Residence Education, supporting the University's academic mission and student academic success on residential campuses.
This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.
Responsibilities
- Support efforts to provide seamless living learning environments that enhance the achievement of classroom learning objectives for students by partnering with students, academic staff, faculty, stakeholders and hall staff. This includes support for the creation and implementation of opportunities for residents and faculty members to interact outside of the traditional classroom setting
- Establish Advisory Boards for each Residential Learning Community. Serve as an advisor to the board members to ensure the board completes the following: (1) plans and implements an orientation program for RLC participants, (2) execute two advisory board meetings per month, (3) ensure each community plans and implements strategies to achieve RLC goal
- Serve in assigned on-campus Residence Education Leadership Team crisis management rotation, being responsible for welfare of 6,400 students, during assigned duty weeks
- Oversees the marketing and recruitment efforts for Residential Learning Community participants
- Develop and implement an annual assessment plan for Residential Learning Community participants and ensures the program standards and results compare favorably to national standards and best practices
- Develop materials for RLC 1000, a connected course for specific Residential Learning Communities
- Develop and implement a plan to support the academic success of residential students
- Collaborate with various campus partners including, but not limited to, University Libraries, Academic Success Center, Student Success, Trio, Student Support Services, and others to provide academic support opportunities for residential students
- Ensure curricular student success and learning goals are communicated to campus partners involved in Residential Learning Communities and Academic Initiatives
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate graduate assistant(s) in collaboration with the Graduate Assistant Recruitment Process and provide on-going guidance, support, and feedback to supervisees
- Work collaboratively with peer Assistant Directors of Residence Education to provide evaluative information for Resident Directors
- Manage assigned budgets within established guidelines
- Collaborate with Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors for Residence Education, and other staff on projects and initiatives as needed
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Master's Degree in Higher Education Student Services, Counseling or a related field
Required Experience
- Three (3) or more years of of post-masters, progressive experience in a supervisory position in a residence hall environment
- A strong desire to work directly with college students

- Five (5) or more years of of post-masters, progressive experience in a supervisory position in a residence hall environment
Proposed Salary
$55,126 - $70,307
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
