The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote and maintain a welcoming and safe environment for Library patrons that is conducive to research and learning.

  • Monitor all areas of the Library in support of Library policies.
  • Act as Library representative to explain Library policy and spaces.
  • Mediate conflicts, as first person of contact, and make referrals as needed.
  • Responsible for emergency evacuation in assigned areas of the Library.
  • Support library colleagues by picking up library materials from tables and place them on reshelving carts.
  • Report concerns, damages, and needed repairs to appropriate Library colleague.
  • Assist in closing procedures.
  • Answer directional questions and provide triage to Library service desks, in support of faculty, students, staff and community members.
  • Assist fellow library staff with meeting patron needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    • Education
      • High School diploma or equivalent required.
      • 1 year college preferred.
    • Experience
      • 6 months working with the public required.
      • Proficiency in spoken English required.
      • 1 year working in a library preferred.
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
      • Positive attitude, collaborative mindset, and comfort with conflict resolution.


    Working Conditions:

  • Some bending and stooping required.
  • Mobile to monitor multi-level Library.
  • Ability to navigate space using stairs or elevator.
  • Must be willing to address patrons who are being disruptive.


  • Part-Time Work Schedule:

    Week One:
    Monday-Thursday: 1:00pm-6:00pm

    Week Two:
    Monday-Thursday: 2:00pm-6:00pm
    Saturday: 12:00pm-4:00pm


    Hiring Range:
    Starting pay begins at $17.59/hr. based on experience.

    Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers regular part-time positions a variety of fringe benefits including retirement benefits, access to holiday pay, personal time and other discounts on classes.
