Job Summary:

This position provides genetic counseling services for clinical patients with genetic and metabolic diseases across the State of Colorado. It is based at Children's Hospital Colorado but also supports the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus, along with several affiliated community hospitals throughout the state.

The individual hired for this role will report to the Genetics & Metabolism Section Head. They will collaborate closely with faculty and members of the genetics and metabolism teams but will primarily focus on supporting the Heart Institute at Children's Hospital Colorado.

The Heart Institute (HI) at Children's Hospital Colorado is the region's largest pediatric cardiovascular center, caring for more than 20,000 patients each year. The genetic counselor will work within the Cardiac Genetics team to provide coordinated care for patients with cardiovascular disease and contribute to the continued growth and development of the program as demand increases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling-including family history assessment, patient education, psychosocial support, and clinical documentation-for individuals with known or

  • suspected genetic disorders and inborn errors of metabolism in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Manage all aspects of genetic testing by selecting, ordering, coordinating, and tracking tests, including cascade testing for at risk family members.

  • Participate in shared on call coverage with Cardiac Genetics faculty and the cardiac genetic counselor.

  • Support clinic operations by collaborating with schedulers, nursing staff, and referring providers to ensure efficient patient flow and high quality care.

  • Contribute to the education and training of genetic counseling students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Assist with new and ongoing specialty programs and clinics as needed.

  • Engage in program outreach, family meetings, multidisciplinary conferences, and community or academic activities.

  • Support research and quality improvement initiatives through participation in studies, data collection, and report writing.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Graduated from an accredited genetic counseling program

  • ABGC board certified or Board eligible with board certification attained within 10 months of graduation

    Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABGC Board Certified with one-year relevant experience

  • Pediatric practice experience

  • Experience in cardiovascular genetics

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles of genetics and inborn errors of metabolism.

  • Knowledge of standard inpatient and outpatient clinical operations and procedures.

  • Ability to develop and present educational information to patients as well as to professionals.

  • Ability to provide genetic counseling, and technical information in a comprehensive, understandable, nondirective manner to patients and families.

  • Ability to work independently as well as serving as a team member.

  • Ability to gather data and prepare reports.

  • Skilled in communication, both oral and written.

  • Skilled in establishing priorities.

  • Requires ability to travel to outreach clinics.

  • Ability to develop collaborative or independent research projects.

  • Educational skills to various learners

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $73,000-$93,000

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
