Position Announcement

The Department of History and Political Science at Utah Valley University invites applications to apply for the Lecturer in U.S. History position beginning 12 August 2026. Lectureship is renewable, subject to university approval. Teaching load is 5/5. A Ph.D. in U.S. History must be completed by the date of appointment. The successful candidate will teach lower-division survey classes in U.S. history. The candidate may also teach lower-division courses in U.S. economic history and at least one upper-division class in U.S. history. Experience teaching at the college or university level is preferred. Daytime, in-person teaching is required, though some teaching may take place online depending on the applicants' experience. Utah residency is required by the time of appointment.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Design, prepare, and teach courses and deliver content using meaningful and engaging methods
    with measurable course objectives.
  • Teach, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in a classroom setting via demonstrations,
    discussion, experiential learning activities, and visual aids.
  • Provide evaluations of learning through written and performance tests.
  • Hold regular office hours and maintain a student-oriented approach to education.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is preferred.
