What We Are Looking For

The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in proteomics/metaproteomics.

The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the characterization and quantification of proteins from complex, host-associated microbiomes. This position will develop novel quantitative metaproteomics approaches to characterizing the gut microbiome in inflammatory bowel disease.

We are hoping to extend our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or biological sciences with significant training and hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry, quantitative proteomics, and bioinformatics and must have excellent communication skills and team work ability.

Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: microbiome sciences, cell sorting, pathogen biology, protein expression, cell culture, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or functional assays.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies mass spectrometry-based omics experiments
  • Develop novel metaproteomics experimental and computational approaches
  • Collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to internal and externally funded research programs. In addition, the selected candidate will be required to contribute to, and possibly lead, the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc.
  • Keep accurate and current records of all results from experiments performed, document methods and processes
  • Present your research
  • Provide mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students
  • Participate in the proposal writing and submission process
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
