POSITION OVERVIEW
Under direction, supports faculty, staff and students with identifying and facilitating equal and adequate access for optimal academic achievement to students with temporary or permanent disabilities in adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines; coordinates eligibility process and implements identified accommodation needs; acts as a liaison for students, service providers and faculty; provides lead-level work guidance to lower-level classified staff and students; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
A Support Services Coordinator is distinguished from the Director of Student Services, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) in that an incumbent in the latter class has management responsibility for the operation of the department's programs and services and for the associated faculty and classified staff.
Essential Functions
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
- Coordinates and implements services for students with a documented disability; receives and reviews documentation of necessary accommodations and performs initial interview with students used to verify a student's eligibility for reasonable accommodations; identifies possible accommodation methods and/or equipment; coordinates service delivery and documentation of SAS services provided.
- Provides work guidance and coordination of the delivery of services to lower-level SAS department staff and students; recommends improvements and implements work plans and objectives; participates in prioritizing workload and ensures timeliness of delivery of services; monitors work for conformance with state, federal, District and department policies, directives, legal/regulatory requirements and standards.
- Provides information, instruction and training to other classified personnel, students and volunteers on unit work processes and technical, legal and regulatory requirements; coordinates faculty and staff professional development and training on instructional and classroom accommodations for students with a verified disability; develops and presents to students and faculty on program services and available resources.
- Assists the District in maintaining compliance with ADA guidelines and serves as liaison between faculty and the SAS department; provides professional consultation to staff, faculty and leaders on related accommodations; initiates communication with faculty and staff and provides guidance in determining reasonable accommodations.
- Coordinates scheduling of classroom accessibility services for registered students utilizing SAS program services requiring in-person accommodations; recruits, schedules and/or assists with contracting for individuals and services providing note-taking, ASL interpreting and captioning; communicates logistics to students and instructors on arrangements.
- Organizes accommodated test-taking activities to ensure integrity of examinations for program students; coordinates testing schedule, manages appointment process for examinees, receives and secures tests, administers tests, securely returns completed tests to instructors; reports any academic dishonesty to appropriate persons and governing bodies; documents services provided.
- Maintains breadth of knowledge of tools, modes and resources available to students utilizing services; researches, studies and practices utility and operations of new accessibility tools and applications; maintains communication and industry contacts in order to identify all resources when seeking tools and methods to accommodate students; connects students with campus-wide resources as appropriate.
- Collaborates with departmental staff to disburse and assign equipment for classroom use including space measurement and defining details of furniture needs, requesting approval and coordinating purchase of furniture and equipment, receiving and assembling furniture, and allocating furniture for use; manages furniture inventory; recovers furniture upon class session completion; stores furniture in appropriate designated location for future use; records inventory following established protocols.
- Fosters an environment that embraces equity-minded practices, integrity, trust and respect. Supports, implements and promotes compliance with the District's Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity Plan in all aspects of employment and education.
- Attends meetings and represents the College and/or department on a variety of internal and external committees.
- Provides direct test-proctoring services to non-SAS students.
- Assists with campus tours for new students.
- Supervises and directs student workers.
- Refers people to other offices, services, campus locations and resources as appropriate.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be graduation from a two-year program with an associate degree and two years of increasingly responsible student accessibility support experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
- College-level coursework in learning styles and adaptive technologies.
- Specific positions may require or desire bilingual skills in a designated second language.

- Provide training to faculty, staff and students on departmental operations and the usage/implementation of SAS services, equipment and technology.
- Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive spreadsheets, correspondence, reports and other written materials.
- Understand, interpret, explain and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures, laws, codes and ordinances.
- Ability to read, interpret and explain complex technical information.
- Study, analyze and resolve practical problems.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to communicate with others in person, over the phone and electronically; move about the office and campus; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl; and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to observe details at close range and at a distance, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades, depth perception and peripheral vision. Additional requirements include ability to adjust focus and view small fonts/symbols for extended periods. Hearing requirements include ability to hear telephone and in-person conversations and to hear signal warnings while operating tools and equipment.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret people and situations; learn and apply new information and skills; perform highly detailed work; work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions and under intensive deadlines; make frequent contact with students and the public; and deal with dissatisfied individuals.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Employees work under typical office conditions subject to frequent public contact and interruption and to intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion.
The employee may be required to travel to locations other than assigned work site, and occasional evening, holiday and/or weekend work may be required in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
- In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. CLASSIFICATION & RETIREMENT PLAN
Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA)Chapter 196 and are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Grade: CSEA 190
Full Salary Range: $41.50 - $50.44 per hour
Starting Salary Range: $41.50 - $45.75 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

CSEA Full-time Employees:
Medical Insurance: The District offers six plan options through Kaiser and Blue Shield. Effective 10/01/2025, the District's contributions for medical insurance coverage are as follows:
- Employee-only: District covers up to $1,700/month
- Employee plus one dependent: District covers up to $2,400/month

Vacation Leave - 90 hours of accrual annually, with additional accrual after 3, 10, and 14 years of service.
Paid Holidays - 17 paid holidays annually, which includes a paid winter holiday break at the end of December.

Retirement through CalPERS - MCCD contributes 27.05% of employee's creditable earnings to CalPERS on a monthly basis (2024/2025). Vested after five (5) years. Mandatory employee contribution for 2024/2025 is 7% - 8%, depending on original date of membership and prior membership status.
Life Insurance - $50,000, with the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for the Lesser of 5x base annual salary or $500,000
