The Department of Classical Studies of the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Lecturer for the 2026-27 academic year. The appointment comes with the potential of renewal for up to two more years, contingent upon a satisfactory performance review and approval of the Dean.
The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher with a commitment to pedagogy and attentive mentorship. They will be ready to teach courses in ancient Greek and Latin language, literature, and culture in our undergraduate, graduate, and Postbaccalaureate programs. The teaching load is five courses per year. All requirements for the PhD must be completed by July 1, 2026.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a c.v., the names of three referees who will then be prompted to upload letters of recommendation, and a teaching statement of 2-5 pages addressing pedagogical priorities and describing past and potential courses.
Review of applications will begin on May 22, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. We will request further materials from short-listed candidates.
