Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director supports the mission of Penn GSE and the University of Pennsylvania in engaging meaningfully, intentionally, and with documented impact on children and youth throughout the United States. The Center for School Study Councils does so by facilitating and supporting professional development for K-12 system leaders to transform leadership in the industry and improve the educational outcomes and overall well-being for children and families impacted by the American education system.

The Assistant Director ideates, manages, and oversees the training and professional development components of the CSSC's evolving membership and partnership portfolios as well as the program operations. This coordination involves supporting recruitment, communications, curriculum and pedagogy, and data collection efforts, to ensure that these efforts have a documented impact and lead to increased capacity within the partner programs or institutions.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Operations and Finances: Design and manage administrative systems to support CSSC, including overseeing and managing schedules and group & individual communications with Council members (comprised of around 80 members), the Coastal Collaborative's cohort in California, the PEERS group, the Wallace Foundation ECPI cohort, and local individuals in respective districts that are partnered with CSSC; Manage the CSSC budget and Wallace grant budget; Write and submit applications to the Pennsylvania and Delaware Departments of Education for CSSC's ability to grant state credit for sessions; Track and report session attendance to PA and DE; Convene, support, and manage the PEERS group; Prepare, troubleshoot, and track all payments and expenses associated with CSSC; Facilitate the hiring process for speakers; Construct announcements for Study Councils monthly meetings; Manage and oversee the Director's schedule as needed.
  • Oversee Events and Programming: Ideate, manage, and plan events for the Center for School Study Councils (CSSC); Facilitate professional development sessions as needed; Organize, manage, and implement in-person and virtual events, conferences, and convenings for CSSC, the Coastal Collaborative (CCC), the PEERS group, the Wallace Foundation ECPI cohort, and school districts, including finding and contracting speakers, and creating and distributing event registration forms and program evaluations, travel, reservations, catering, technology; Represent CSSC at meetings. Generate ideas for Study Councils, CCC, and PEERS meeting topics. Work with outside groups and internal faculty and staff to develop and administer programming such as webinars, in-person summits, and institutes. Collaborate closely with internal groups to create and implement new programming to generate revenue, like the Legacy Lab for practitioners to publish pieces based on their leadership experiences. Lead a planning committee for the annual PEERS conference. Collaborate on creating the structure and scope of PEERS meetings.
  • Outreach and Recruitment: Manage social media accounts, landing pages, and the Center's website to promote CSSC and individual events, and provide information to various cohorts; Collaborate with the Director on ways to expand and sustain the Center; Create and disseminate materials including one-page flyers and slide decks promoting CSSC's work; Partner with the Director and consultants to recruit district leaders in PA, NJ, DE, CA, MD, and VT.
  • Data Collection and Evaluation: Formulate, assess, and distribute program evaluations; Collect and organize session evaluations; Evaluate overall data for CSSC including numbers of members, sources of income streams, number and focus of meetings; Use the data to identify trends; Work with the Director to assess programming and make changes where needed; Evaluate and report assessment data regularly.
  • Perform additional duties as needed


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL:
  • A Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Sufficient Microsoft Suite skills, along with experience working with financial databases.
  • Must be comfortable engaging multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Must be an effective verbal and written communicator.
  • Must be a self-starter with both an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset.


PREFERRED:
  • A Master's degree in Education or experience working in the education sector.
  • A track record of problem-solving.
  • Ability to prioritize projects when needed.

Expected Salary: $60,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
