Part-Time Academic Counselor, Student and Academic Success

Campus Location: Hybrid

Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours a week; evening and Saturdays.

Monday -Thursday: 4:00 pm -8:00 pm; First Saturday of each month: 9:00 am -12:00 pm

SALARY: $36.55/hr.; Non-benefited, MCCC unit position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The position provides equitable (e.g., developmental and appreciative, based on student and situation) advising to new, returning and transfer students to integrate their academic, personal, career and educational goals. This role is part of the Student Support and Advising Center services that are offered on each campus. The position requires in depth knowledge of the College's academic programs and policy information needed to advise students. The position works one-on-one, group advising and virtual and in-person registration events for students. The incumbent is responsible for assigned hours in the Centers and other locations as well as the virtual environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Guide students in selecting programs of study and academic pathways aligned with their academic and career goals.
  • Review and interpret placement results to support appropriate course selection.
  • Advise students on strategies to meet communication and math proficiency requirements, as needed.
  • Develop individualized academic plans in Navigate that align with students' goals and expected completion timelines.
  • Assess time management needs and recommend appropriate course formats to support student success.
  • Participate in new student registration events.
  • Connect students with relevant college resources and support services.
  • Monitor and respond to advising inbox emails and voicemails in a timely manner.
  • Document advising interactions and maintain accurate records in Navigate.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining clear communication and collaboration with team members.
  • Must be able to use various electronic platforms to communicate, assist and evaluate students.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, rapidly growing, intense, and multifunctional office environment. Strong presentation/instructional skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National Background Check as a condition of employment.
