Job Summary
Utility and Energy Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Utility Plant Electrician! The primary focus is the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, controls, metering, and related systems. Work is performed with a strong emphasis on safety, code compliance, and minimizing downtime. The position also supports the campus wide utility metering system, I&C, and Medium Voltage tasks.
Candidates should have general knowledge of power distribution equipment, motors, Variable Speed/Frequency Drives (VSD, VFD), electrical metering, totalizers, and pneumatic devices, and a working knowledge of electrical diagrams and circuits, and familiarity with NEC.

Who We Are
Utility and Energy Services is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of the campus' energy generation and distribution infrastructure for steam (heating), chilled water (cooling), and electricity. We provide the campus community with reliable utility services in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner and offer measurement, line locating, performance engineering, regulatory, and data management services.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install electrical equipment and devices within district energy plants. This includes VFD's, Motor starters, UPS systems, Electrical distribution systems and a variety of industrial control and metering devices. Complete small projects including the installation of RMC and EMT conduit within plants and campus buildings. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues specific to plant automation controls used in a utility plant environment. Perform regular maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Inspect contractor installed equipment and ensure work follows national and local electrical codes, safety regulations, and company/campus standards.
- Work with other groups and departments on campus to generate LOTO's and safety procedures, troubleshoot electrical metering, coordinate outages, respond to customer demands and supervise contractors. Collaborate with plant operations and maintenance teams to identify electrical needs and provide recommendations for improving plant performance and safety. Communicate with supervision and coworkers on system needs and assignments, keeping management informed.
- Maintain documentation of plant repairs and PM's. Schedule and coordinate work tasks, ordering parts and material, analyzing trends and data, reviewing drawings and schematics.

What We Can Offer
- The salary for this role is $85,000 - $92,000 annually

What We Require
- 2 years of experience of electrical maintenance in a plant/industrial environment.
- 5 years of general electrical experience or a combination of relevant education or relevant experience equal to 5 years.
- Ability to run RMC and EMT raceways with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work on and around voltages ranging from 24V-15KV.
- Must be willing to respond to plant and campus emergencies/outages.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
