The Sundborg Center for Community Engagement (CCE) connects campus and community to pursue a more just and humane world. The CCE is the hub for the Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI). The Youth Initiative is a long-term commitment by Seattle University to unite SU and the wider community to support the social emotional growth and academic growth of youth living in SUYI neighborhoods. Our vision is to significantly transform Seattle University and the SUYI neighborhood and, in so doing, become a national model of campus-community engagement.

Job Description - Mentor at Washington Middle School's Redhawk Academic Mentoring Program (RAMP)
Position Summary: A Redhawk Academic Mentor provides weekly in-person one-on-one academic and social emotional mentoring with students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Mentors will engage in this work on-site at Washington Middle School (WMS). Mentors build relationships and belonging with scholars so that they feel more connected to school and engagement in their daily lives. The position also supports specific classrooms.
Responsibilities:
Effectively develop and maintain authentic relationships with scholars, keeping detailed records of each session, participating in all personal and professional development, trainings, meetings, and effectively communicating with Washington Middle School Site Manager, Graduate Assistant at WMS, and Team Leader.
Responsibilities Include:
- Work with team members to ensure that all scholars receive a healthy, positive, and consistent experience in the RAMP program.
- Effectively communicate with Washington Middle School Site Manager, Graduate Assistant at WMS, Team Leader, peers, scholars, and families.
- Engage in working with team lead to plan weekly sessions and activities for scholars if working in after school programming.
- Engage with and in personal and professional development requirements.
- On time and effective submission of proper communication and documentation is required.
- Commit to a full academic year.
Qualifications Required:
- Able to fully participate in 1-2 mentoring sessions, a weekly small team meeting, and monthly professional development requirements.
- Willingness to grow mentoring skills and practices.
- A willingness to embody positive language and positive accountability practices for teammates and scholars.
- Able to interact with scholars of various social and economic backgrounds in an academic setting.
- Able and willing to demonstrate effective and culturally relevant mentoring practices.
- Due to the relational nature of this work, an individual working in this capacity must be dependable and reliable with communication and presence on site.
- Willingness to continually develop social justice and racial equity lens through informal and formal training opportunities in accordance with the CCE's commitment to anti-racist practices.

Current Hiring and Training Plan:
Mentoring will be started slowly in November and officially start in January. Professional development training and on-site orientation will begin in November. Mentors are expected to maintain a similar schedule during all 3 quarters.
The Mentors at WMS will report to the Washington Middle School Site Manager at the Center for Community Engagement. Mentors will work a maximum of 10 hours a week at $21.30 an hour.

Positions designated as hybrid eligible may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule after successful completion of an introductory period of 3-6 months. In these cases, the role typically begins fully on campus to support onboarding and training, with the potential to transition to a hybrid arrangement thereafter.
Positions designated as on-site are not eligible for hybrid work and are expected to remain fully on campus.
