The College of Creative Studies (CCS) and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (DCB) in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California Santa Barbara jointly invite applications for a security-of-employment-track (analogous to tenure track) faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor, with an anticipated appointment start date of July 1, 2027 or later, and course instruction anticipated to start Fall 2027 or later. The appointment will be evenly split between CCS and DCB. Faculty in this title are members of the Academic Senate, with benefits and privileges that parallel the traditional professor track. This 100% (full time - academic year) position is eligible for full University of California benefits.

CCS and DCB are looking for individuals with expertise in biochemistry, capable of teaching both lower- and upper-division undergraduate classes, including upper-division biochemistry laboratory courses. Additional duties will include general advising, student admissions, and program coordination and assessment. The successful candidate will work with faculty colleagues and staff to enhance curriculum, course design, and pedagogy and contribute to efforts to update courses through evidence-based pedagogical approaches. In addition, they will develop a program with scholarly impact based on engagement in pedagogical professional development, discipline-based education research, instructional innovation, or research in the underlying discipline. The successful candidate will also contribute to the department's climate through a record of productive collaborations and positive engagement with colleagues and peers.

CCS is a small undergraduate college designed for self-directed students in the sciences and humanities within a world-class research university. It maintains a strong focus on undergraduate research and creative activities, presently hosts nine majors, and offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Further information on CCS can be found on the CCS website. DCB is a large department in the Division of Life, Math and Physical Sciences in the College of Letters and Sciences, and offers undergraduate B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biochemistry.
