California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Position Information:
This is a Part-time, (Temporary) position.

** Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th of the following year), with the possibility of renewal.

Department: Department of Negotiation Conflict Resolution and Peace Building (NCRP), College of Arts and Humanities

The College of Arts & Humanities is the center for artistic, humanities, and social scientific activities at the university. The College contributes in a major way to the development of Basic Skills, General Education, Teacher Preparation and prominent majors and minors that encompasses the disciplines of Africana Studies, Art and Design, Asian Pacific Studies, Communication, Dance Digital Media Arts, English, History, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Labor Studies, Modern Language, Music, Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peace-Building, Philosophy, Theatre Arts, and Women Studies. With this exciting array of programs, students are presented with many choices that will shape their professional and personal lives forever.

Major Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Academic Resource Manger and in collaboration with the Chair of NCRP Department, the incumbent serves as the Department Coordinator to the Chair, Faculty, and Students of the programs. The primary duties and responsibilities include scheduling the activities of, and providing support to the department office; procuring supplies and services as necessary, maintaining inventory, and tracking expenditures; and assisting the department chair with semester class schedules, including entering data in the campus network system. The incumbent independently performs a wide variety of moderate to complex administrative tasks involving the use of judgment and discretion; serves as receptionist in person and by telephone, responds to general inquiries, routine questions and/or resolves issues and problems by providing necessary information; prepares memos, letters, notices, directives, bulletins, schedules, and agendas; compiles incoming/outgoing correspondence and mail; schedules appointment calendars, arranges and processes travel forms, arranges meetings and ensures that proceedings are properly recorded; develops and maintains department filing system, faculty files, student records.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; modern and standard office procedures, practices, methods, filing systems and records management; proper customer service techniques; University or academic infrastructure, policies and procedures.

Abilities to:
Use standard office equipment and word processing and other computer software programs. Exercise judgment and act independently in establishing and implementing policies and procedures; Obtain information, interpret and apply statewide, university, college and department policies and procedures, as well established laws, rules and regulations. Troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to inquiries and requests; understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas; analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions; perform routine administrative tasks effectively, efficiently and in detail; produce written documents and reports with clearly organized thought, using proper format, sentences construction, punctuation, and grammar and from multiple, fragmentary instructions; communicate clearly in writing and orally in group settings, face-to-face, one-on-one and via telephone; plan and coordinate work activities and provide lead work direction and/or assistance to others in work processes and procedures. Handle effectively a broad range of interpersonal contacts, from those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature to the members of the general public and those requesting general information. Responds to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others; be a self-starter, multi-task while maintain a pleasant disposition.

Skill in:
Fundamental writing and presentation skills effectively communicate standard information; planning, organizing, coordinating and performing multiple work assignments; operation of standard office equipment, including printer, copier, fax machine, etc.; full range of office support technology and systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, on-line system, voice-mail, electronic mail; working with personnel at various levels and people of diverse backgrounds.

Specialized Materials: Computer, typewriter, copy machine, fax machine, and other various office equipment.

Experience and Education:

Required Education: High school program, technical/vocational program or their equivalent.

Preferred Education: Professional clerical training OR bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a program-related major.

Required Experience: Several years of related office work experience, equivalent to three (3) years.

Preferred Experience: Use of word processing and spreadsheet software programs and computer network systems

Salary Range:
The salary range for this classification is: $2,846 - $4,998
