Job Description
Assumes responsibility for advising fraternity and sorority executive boards and assisting students in building a culture of accountability, compliance and respect among members including oversight of large-scale community events, accreditation process and awards. Fosters a culture of accountability, inclusion, compliance, and respect among members. Assumes responsibility for programming designed to foster civic and community engagement. Performs all duties understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

Description of Key Responsibility: Fraternity and Sorority Life:

Serves as the primary advisor to all non-academic Fraternity and Sorority Life Organizations, Interfraternity, Panhellenic, and National Pan-Hellenic Councils providing guidance on short and long-term goals, program planning, standards and procedures, and expansion and recruitment efforts. Regularly meets with council officers, chapter presidents, and chapter officers to assist in developing student leaders to fulfill the vision of the Division of Student Success (DSS), and the University.

Creates seamless opportunities that integrate the Fraternity and Sorority Life community with the general student body, the Greater Hartford area, national and local organizations, and the University of Hartford community as a whole. Coordinates community service initiatives, impactful campus initiatives, and integrates existing community service and student engagement opportunities within the OSEI into the Fraternity and Sorority experience.

Develops and implements educational and social opportunities for chapters. Develop systems and strategies that promote a positive Fraternity and Sorority image.

Works collaboratively with fraternal advisors, national organizations, student leaders, alumni/ae, faculty and staff to address risk management issues within the Greek community. Directs and counsels groups toward unity and collaboration among chapters and councils. Participates in cross-University initiatives supporting wellness promotion, health education, and risk prevention as they relate to our various communities across campus.

Responds to emergencies as necessary and/or appropriate.


Description of Key Responsibility: Student Leadership Development:

Partners with the Assistant Director of Student Leadership Development, supports the design, implementation, and evaluation of leadership programming for fraternity and sorority student leaders and maintains strong partnerships with national offices.

Executes timely grade checks for Fraternity and Sorority Life recruitment, identifies and meets with students not meeting the minimum GPA requirements. Makes referrals as appropriate to academic and DSS supportive services.

Develops, implements, and coordinates Fraternity and Sorority Life-specific training workshops to include (but are not limited to) risk management, hazing prevention, alcohol and drug use prevention, Title IX, Clery Act, sexual assault/rape awareness, bystander intervention, health and safety, and diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging (DEIJB). Ensures all Fraternity and Sorority members comply with the Universitys Code of Conduct, National Standards, and Tier leadership development requirements.

Conducts periodic assessments throughout the Student Engagement portfolio to inform strategy and prioritize student learning initiatives and student success. Assesses outcomes and progress toward fulfilling institutional goals and program effectiveness.

Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies, such as Institutional Advancement, to build a detailed roster of Fraternity and Sorority Life alums, and assist with the various fundraising efforts. Partners closely with Division of Student Success offices to create/support programming.


Description of Key Responsibility: Civic Engagement:

Establish, cultivate, and maintain effective working relationships with campus and non-profit community service partners, ensuring alignment with Division of Student Success and departmental goals.

Work collaboratively with Public Safety, Office of Residential Life, Center for Student Success, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), to foster and create a community mindset dedicated to furthering Civic Engagement efforts. Manages and executes signature OSEI Civic Engagement programs, at least three to five per semester. Coordinates service programs such as Helping Hawks Service Scholars (H2S2), Helping Hawks Days of Service, Annual Holiday Season Giving Campaign, Volunteer Fairs, Alternative Spring Breaks, and Hawks Vote Campaigns. Manages and is responsible for the operation of the The Nosh food pantry.

Build and maintain strong partnerships with local non-profits to advance community service initiatives. Manage and coordinate the placement of students within vetted partner agencies to fulfill the co-curricular service-learning components of academic course requirements, Community Service Federal Work Study requirements, and provide classroom instruction on service-learning process.

Manages the UHart Connect program to ensure students who express financial need, and experience food and housing insecurities are connected to the appropriate resources.


Description of Key Responsibility: Serves on internal and external committees and during special events as necessary and/or appropriate. Attending professional and regional student conferences as appropriate. Supports larger DSS and OSEI related activities as necessary.

Formal Education:
Bachelors Degree required; Masters degree preferred.
