About the Position:
University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Associate Director, News Media Services. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the director of news media services, this position fields news media inquiries; develops and maintains positive, constructive relationships with news media contacts; proactively pitches reporters and editors to generate earned media coverage; actively the monitors the news media for instances of University coverage and emerging opportunities; fulfills an integral role in strategic issue management and emergency communications; and assists in the tracking of performance metrics. Identifies appropriate subject matter experts for media interviews and connecting them with reporters. Serves as University spokesperson when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in media-relations work. Demonstrated track record of earning news media coverage. Superior skills in researching, writing, editing, and proofing editorial content in English. Superior oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to understand differing stakeholder audiences and differing content platforms, adjusting editorial content accordingly. Expert knowledge of university communication objectives and ability to translate them into effective communication campaigns. Ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective. Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to publications and the news media. Working knowledge of appropriate use of statistical techniques. Expert networking and interpersonal skills, including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents. Demonstrated organizational skills.
Proficiency in the use of general office equipment, Mac OS personal computers, administrative computing system(s), MS Office and other relevant software applications.
