Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Dean for Administration and Operations is responsible for assisting with planning and operations and ensuring that the Georgia Southern Libraries engage in continuous, data-informed improvement in support of the Libraries and University strategic plans. Along with the Associate Dean for Research & Assessment, the Associate Dean for Administration and Operations assists the Dean in gathering data and writing reports. The Associate Dean for Administration and Operations, the Associate Dean for Research and Assessment,and the library department heads comprise the Deans Advisory Council.


Anticipated Workload: Librarianship 80%, Scholarship 10%, and Service 10%

Essential Functions:

Works in collaboration with the Dean of Libraries and the Associate Dean of Libraries for Research and Assessment to develop proactive, intentional strategies to stay abreast of user needs.

Promotes and encourages commitment to achieve strategic plans and communicate strategic initiatives.

Assists the Dean in compiling data and information and writing reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Participates in the formulation of both short- and long-range planning as a member of the Deans senior leadership team.

Under the supervision of the Dean of Libraries, provides guidance and assistance with library operations.

Oversees the work of the Intellectual Property, Government Information, and Lead Instructional Librarian.

Fosters positive relations with faculty, students, and staff on both campuses.

Along with the Associate Dean for Research and Assessment, oversees the libraries when the Dean is unavailable.

Secondary functions:

May be asked to act as an interim department head when a vacancy occurs.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Libraries.

Research, Scholarship, and /or Creative Activities:

Engages in research, scholarship, and grant activities at a level appropriate for the rank and tenure status held.

Service:

Engages in service activities for the library, the university, the community, and/or the profession.

Participates in regional, national, or international professional associations, task forces, etc. as circumstances allow and at a level appropriate to the rank and tenure status held.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree in Library Science (e.g., MLS, MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited school or an equivalent degree if earned outside the U.S.

Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues

Minimum of 8 years of experience working in an academic library.

Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience and supervising library faculty and staff.

Experience in library operations, academic librarianship initiatives, and strategic planning.

Experience working with integrated library systems and other library-specific technologies.

Experience performing program and policy analysis.

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research and scholarship activities at a level appropriate for the rank and tenure status held.

Demonstrated commitment to supporting collegiality and a culture of transparency and collaboration.

Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Library & Information Science or related discipline.

Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the associate professor level is required for the rank of professor along with a strong record of research and service with substantial publications and presentations in professional venues

Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership positions such as Associate Dean or Department Chair/Head.

Demonstrated experience successfully migrating to a new integrated library system and implementing new technologies.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across academic disciplines.

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
