Description
Under the direction of the Production Manager of Milwaukee PBS, performs a variety of duties of a creative equipment operations nature involving the vision, creation, and editing of high definition television programs using professional Avid video editing systems and related television equipment at Milwaukee PBS. Work is varied using established procedures requiring judgment and the making of minor decisions including supervision and delegation to other specialists. Supervision received is general in nature while works independently referring unusual situations to the supervisor for decision or advice.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Operates, maintains and upgrades professional Avid editing systems in the production of programming at Milwaukee PBS.
Operates, maintains and upgrades related television broadcast equipment such as video servers, video switchers, audio consoles, including CAT-6; Killer Tracks server; Weather Channel, hardware and software related products.
Maintains technical standards for audio and video throughout the program editing process.
Operates media dubbing and ingest equipment. Performs various other operations duties on an occasional basis.
Collaborates with Television and Video Production instructors; recommends design of student production for classes and labs.
Collaborates with Milwaukee PBS production staff and Engineering staff to define production requirements; MATC IT department to support broadcast equipment integration.
Attends in-service training, workshops, and other educational activities to keep current on newest trends as required or assigned.
Keeps current and recommends new strategies on digital trends. Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.

Qualifications
Required Education: Associate's degree in video production and editing or related field
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

Required Experience: Three (3) years' work experience in professional level television production editing; or other equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Speak, hear, read and write Spanish with proficiency.
Preferred Experience: Prefer more than three (3) years of relevant experience.

Required License/Certification: None.
Preferred License/Certification: Completion of specialized training on Avid editing systems and other broadcast equipment operations is desirable.

  • Demonstrated proficiency of video/audio editing principles and techniques using Avid professional editing systems (Media Composer, Interplay) with file based workflows.
  • Experience in editing full length programs for broadcast television and documentary program editing a plus.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain all appropriate technical standards throughout the editing process.
  • Experience with graphics programs (After Effects, Photoshop).
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.
