JOB SUMMARY:
The Lamar University Information Technology - Enterprise Services team is accepting applications for a Sr. Business Analyst or Business Analyst position with experience to support the Ellucian Banner ERP/administrative software solutions, with a focus on the Student modules. (One position is available, the level of position will be determined by the applicant's qualifications.).

The Enterprise Services-Information Technology Services team is responsible for supporting a variety of third-party interfaces, reporting applications, and databases which include the Ellucian Operational Data Store (ODS), Evisions Argos reporting solution, Banner Document Management System (BDMS), DegreeWorks and other third-party applications and databases. This position will focus on functional user support, consultation, analysis and design of effective solutions to meet business requirements.

The candidate will be expected to work on assignments under general direction of the Technical Applications Manager, provide application support of administrative computing systems consisting primarily of the Oracle-based Banner ERP System. The position will also provide troubleshooting and general support for all ancillary applications associated with Banner ERP system.

The successful candidate will support the mission of IT by providing high quality, professional IT services and timely response and solutions to customer requests.

The purpose of this position is to provide analysis, consultation, documentation, and reporting of complex design solutions, and serve as liaison between functional and technical responsibilities in the daily operations, maintenance and administration of the SunGard Banner ERP/administrative software solutions, with a focus on the Student modules. This is accomplished by gathering and assessing information to define requirements, developing procedures to meet requirements, developing test plans, presenting analysis results, creating reports, querying data, attending meetings, and training users. Other duties include attending conferences, seminars and training sessions, assisting with the development and implementation of ancillary applications

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Working with the university community to review business processes and make recommendations for improvements
* Providing users with liaison and technical support for administrative applications
* Providing system configuration and usage guidance to the administrative user community
* Supporting departmental staff and administration with the identification, evaluation, selection, support and maintenance of systems solutions
* Providing systems analysis, problem solving support, and necessary programming support to provide efficient and effective use of administrative information systems in support of user's goals and objectives
* Providing maintenance, appropriate use, production and problem solving support, and ad-hoc reporting support
* Developing project plans for major technical activities
* Preparing project status reports and keeping management, users, and others informed of project status and related issues
* Implementing quality assurance methodologies covering test plans, change management, and problem management
* Meeting with users and staff to determine the impact of proposed changes in hardware or software for users
* Planning and developing day-to-day policies and procedures to promote successful performance of administrative systems
* Planning, designing and implementing integration of other data sources into the SunGard Banner/Oracle database on a project by project basis
* Participating in the planning of upgrades to the SunGard Banner software including the evaluation of the effort involved, the steps required, and the provision of information related to operational changes
* Provides report writing by receiving report requests from functional users; interpreting the report requirements; writing SQL code for queries; presenting results to requester for approval; modifying existing reports and queries
* Performs analysis and design by meeting with functional users to discuss business needs; documenting requirements, and risks; designing a solution; developing test plans to verify functionality of the solution; reviewing software patches and upgrades; recommending schedule for implementing of patches and upgrades; leading testing effort; obtaining approval for functional leads for promoting patches and upgrades to production
* Serve as a liaison between Business Units and Information Technology (IT) technical staff by communicating with business units, federal and state agencies, and vendors; translating business needs to detailed specifications for development; interpreting detailed specifications to a level of general understanding; and developing test plans to verify the functionality of the solution
* Provides problem resolution by using programming languages, operating systems and software applications; and debugging/troubleshooting problems with data and reports
* This position does require occasional after hours and/or weekend support of operations

Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BUSINESS ANALYST SR.:
* Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university and at least three (3) years of related experience
* Capability to perform in a dynamic and team-oriented environment is essential
* Strong functional knowledge of the Banner ERP System in the Student module is required
* Strong SQL programming skills are required
* Experience with researching, documenting and testing patches and upgrades for the universitys administrative applications is required
* Strong problem solving skills
* Experience working with Ellucian Action Line on reported issues
* Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, communicate project status and provide leadership and direction for assigned initiatives
* Ability to work with functional business units and coordinate technological solutions to meet business needs
* Strong desktop automation skills including effective use of e-mail, word processors, spreadsheets and the ability to use tools in conjunction with databases
* Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors and the public are required
* Strong written, oral and organizational skills

BUSINESS ANALYST:
* Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of related experience
* Capability to perform in a dynamic and team-oriented environment is essential
* Functional knowledge with some module of the Banner ERP System is required
* Familiarity with any programming language that can be used for reporting
* Strong problem solving skills
* Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, communicate project status and provide leadership and direction for assigned initiatives
* Ability to work with functional business units and coordinate technological solutions to meet business needs
* Strong desktop automation skills including effective use of e-mail, word processors, spreadsheets and the ability to use tools in conjunction with databases
* Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors and the public are required
* Strong written, oral and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Functional knowledge in the areas of the Banner Student Information System including but not limited to: registrar, admissions, recruiting, academic history, graduation and others strongly desired
  • Oracle experience is a plus
  • Ability to write ad-hoc SQL queries against a range of relational databases
  • Experience with Evisions Product Suite, including Form Fusion, Argos, Intellecheck, and MAPS administration
  • Experience with Banner system patches and upgrades
  • Experience with Operational Data Store (ODS) reporting and maintenance
  • Experience with Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB)
  • Experience with the Banner Document Management Suite (BDMS)
  • Experience with Appworx (UC4)
  • Experience with Degree Works
  • Working knowledge of any programming/query language such as, but not limited to, SQL, PL/SQL, C, Shell Script, etc.
