Position Summary:
This position is responsible for coordinating and assisting in managing design and construction activity for Seattle Central College and its associated offsite campuses which includes monitoring construction sites for compliance with project scope, review budgets and schedules, maintain all project records, requests for information, correspondence, and acts as an owner's representative on assigned projects.

This position reports to the Director of Facilities & Plant Operations.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Washington and is subject to union shop provisions.


Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate and manage construction processes for in-house delivered and contracted tenant improvements and small capital projects up to $350k in value. Assist in projects up to $25+ million.
  • Manages day-to-day coordination of all phases of construction project development and implementation.
  • Responsible for project account management including cost estimates, budget alignment and certification of payments.
  • Review estimates, quotes, and invoices for accuracy.
  • Provides routine project and budget status reports
  • Serves as liaison with Engineering and Architectural Services Division of the Washington Department of Enterprise Services (DES), consultants, contractors, city officials, and SCC staff during the planning and construction phases of assigned projects.
  • Monitors and oversees construction project standards/quality, budget and schedule.
  • Participates in contractor conflict resolutions and disputes. Implements corrective measures as necessary.
  • Coordinates project activities to minimize impact to departments and programs.
  • Maintains and archives project records.
  • Resolve problems and respond to inquiries regarding rules, regulations, policies, department procedures, and department services.
  • Review project scope and submittals for meeting college standards. Works with Operating Engineers to assure alignment with existing facilities and proper hand off to maintenance upon project completion.
  • Consults with the Director of Facilities & Plant Operations as needed to ensure smooth delivery of assigned projects.
  • Assists the Director of Facilities & Plant Operations as requested.
  • Responding to budget and resource pressures associated with a changing Washington State allocation model
  • Forming critical partnerships with other departments to find ways to become more efficient
  • Remain highly organized
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • Degree in Construction or Project Management. Equivalent experience (3+ years) in commercial capital construction management may be considered
  • Minimum 3 years of built environment project management experience
  • Proficiency in computer software applications to facilitate successful construction management, e.g. Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, etc. required
  • Knowledge of current best practices, principles and standards of engineering, architecture, construction methods, procedures, policies associated with construction project management.
  • The ability to work effectively with a variety of agencies, consultants, contractors, city officials, inspectors, Citizen's Advisory Councils, and SCCC staff to facilitate a successful construction management program.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ethics, integrity, and sound professional decision-making skills and judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and learning abilities.
  • High energy level enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to meet deadlines.
