Position Summary
The Carpenter is responsible for skilled carpentry duties related to university in-house construction projects, and general maintenance and repairs to university residence halls and academic buildings.

This includes a wide array of skilled carpentry tasks to include metal stud framing, hanging drywall, door framing, acoustic tile and grid ceiling installation, cabinetry, overall wood carpentry, etc.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Significant knowledge, skill and abilities with metal stud framing.

Significant knowledge, skill and abilities with insulation; door framing and door installation; grid ceiling framing, repair and installation; and acoustic tile installation.

Knowledge, skill and ability to weld and fabricate metal components as specified in construction drawings, specifications, etc.

Ability to follow standard safely standards in use of power and hand tools.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Required Work Experience
Skilled carpentry with a minimum of 5 years commercial construction experience with a specialization in metal stud framing, drywall installation, door framing, floor installation, insulation, acoustic tile and grid ceiling framing.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in construction projects in commercial, industrial, and higher education environments.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid Texas Drivers License and be insurable under UIWs insurance carrier.

Work Hours
Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm; occasional weekend, holiday and evening work will be required.

Physical Demands
Must be able to perform demanding physical activities in typical construction and office environments; must be able to lift, pull and push equipment up to 50 pounds, AND be able to bend, sit and stand for prolong periods while being exposed to inclement weather and typical construction environments, including some confined spaces.
