Master of Arts in Counseling Program at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS)

The Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program of RTS announces an opening for a full-time Core Faculty position on its Jackson, MS campus. The MAC program is a CACREP accredited residential Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Its mission is to prepare distinctly Christian, conceptually and clinically competent Professional Counselors who can integrate their Christian faith and Reformed worldview with their knowledge of counseling, render counseling to both churched and non-churched populations in multicultural and pluralistic societies and successfully enter the helping field. Female and ethnic minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

A unique aspect of RTS’s MAC program is the on-campus clinical internship experience offered to its students. Under the supervision of professors and other licensed mental health professionals, students counsel persons from diverse, local communities in individual, couple, family, and group settings.

Job Summary:

Core faculty members are involved in teaching, clinical supervision, administration, and scholarly work. They are also able to engage in a minimal number of hours of on-site private practice. The MAC program is seeking applicants with significant teaching and clinical experience who can bring practical expertise to the classroom. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of counseling and Christian theology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a PhD in Counselor Education or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.

  • Possess, or are eligible for, licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Mississippi and have maintained involvement in clinical practice or consultation.

  • Possess clinical supervisory licensure and experience.

  • Demonstrate service to the profession and the broader community through local, regional, and national affiliations, with evidence of scholarship through presentations and/or publications.

  • Demonstrate a concern for ministry in the church as well as professional mental health counseling.

  • Desire a collaborative and unified pedagogical relationship with fellow RTS faculty.

  • Commitment to the Reformed faith.


Major Job Duties:

  • Teach graduate courses in Counseling (typically 18 semester credits per year).

  • Supervise graduate counseling students in their on-site practicum and internships.

  • Conduct research and/or scholarship activities.

  • Engage in a minimal private practice.
