Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services the Career Resource Center Counselor/Coordinator shall perform and be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide individualized counseling for personal, career, transfer and all academic matters, with an emphasis in career counseling;

  • Maintain appropriate student educational plans, student contacts, and interpret placement test results;

  • Evaluate transcripts, discuss probation/dismissal procedures, and assist students with appropriate academic and personal planning;

  • Provide activities and instruction designed to acquaint students with the range of career and transfer options;

  • Monitor and track students' academic performance and progress in degree objectives to ensure effective use of services and successful attainment of program objectives;

  • Provide information on the full range of federal students financial aid programs and benefits to improve the financial and economic literacy of students including financial planning for postsecondary education;

  • Plan successful activities that are designed to assist students to apply for admission and obtain financial assistance for enrollment in graduate and professional programs;

  • Serve as a liaison to instructional divisions;

  • Assist with the development of counseling related publications;

  • Present workshops for students;

  • Appropriately assist in the development and implementation of special programs focusing on access and retention;

  • Participate in curriculum development for student development courses;

  • Collaborate with College Relations to develop outreach activities to high school students to prepare them before they enter college;

  • Maintain close working relationships with faculty and their program participants;

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of matriculation processes;

  • Develop and implement activities that promote student and faculty use of the Reedley College Career Resource Center;

  • Develop and assess course and program level Student Learning Outcomes to improve student learning

  • Develop reports for progress monitoring activities;

  • Assist in the advancement of the institutions vitality and growth; and

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR
  • A valid California Community College Credential; OR
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

    All candidates must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    (NOTE: A bachelors degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Cross cultural counseling experience;
  • Demonstrated experience working with multicultural/diversity counseling issues;
  • Successful counseling experience in a community college;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students and staff;
  • Experience and knowledge of computer applications and technology related to counseling functions;
  • Professional experience providing a broad array of community college counseling services;
  • Knowledge of student success models/orientation programs for retention; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its missions and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
177-181 duty days per year contingent upon funding.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $54,029 $83,180 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who submit all the required documents and who meet the qualifications, a selection advisory committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions. Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the ecommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services and the President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
