Job Description:
The Digital Content Specialist will help produce, develop, and oversee all digital and social media content for WAER departments working with the Newhouse school. Working with WAER's News, Sports and other content departments, the specialist will strategize and execute plans to distribute content on digital and social media platforms.

This role will also collaborate with Newhouse professors and student media entities to bring more content to digital channels. The position will oversee and execute e-newsletters for news content, as well as membership and alumni informational newsletters. The specialist will also help recruit, train and supervise a student staff dedicated to the tasks above. This position reports to the WAER Content and Operations Director, assisting with website maintenance and effectiveness.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in digital content creation and management.

Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit organizational structure and compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Experience in managing teams and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Proficiency in SEO best practices, Google Analytics, and other data analysis tools.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop, research, write, and edit original content for WAERs website, social media channels including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube, as well as eNewsletters. Keep content updated, relevant, and engaging to cater to a diverse audience. Collaborate with campus partners like The NewsHouse, Orange Television Network (OTN), and community partners on co-branding opportunities, multimedia projects, and community-based podcasts.
  • Spearhead the online story planning and editorial process for a range of content types, including local news, multimedia features and investigative reports from WAERs news content providers. Coordinate digital content with WAER News and Sports departments. Establish collaborations with relevant Newhouse School professors and courses for story reporting, editing, photography, and graphic design. Recruit, train, and oversee content creation and social media teams of student volunteers, while setting quality standards and deadlines.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy, aligning with WAERs mission and vision. Perform regular data analytics to measure and report social media impressions, web page views, and overall digital reach. Present monthly performance reports to the executive staff and team. Create and manage a web content calendar, ensuring frequent updates for dynamic content and periodic review for static content. Collaborate with the Newhouse assistant director of marketing to optimize content performance.
  • Actively engage in social media and community outreach to expand WAERs visibility. Attend various community and campus meetings to understand audience needs and form partnerships. Participate in executive meetings and engage with board members. Provide training on NPRs Grove CMS to students and other content contributors. Participate with other WAER station stuff on fundraising campaigns.
