Job Summary
The Director of Faculty Support Services (FSS) reports to the Dean for Administration (Ad Dean) and leads a department of 60+ faculty assistants and administrative personnel (FSS staff members and Copy Center staff members, including managers and support staff), and oversees a wide range of core activities that are integral to the direct support of HLS faculty. The Director must collaborate and maintain relationships with key constituents across HLS, including but not limited to: Academic Affairs, Admissions, Dean's Office, Dean of Students Office, Finance, Human Resources, ITS, Law Library, Office of Career Services, and the Registrar's Office as well as with all permanent and visiting faculty. Outside relationships will include vendors and other service providers and colleagues in similar roles across Harvard and at peer law schools.
Position Description
As Director you will:
- Supervise all logistics and operations of departmental budgets and people management, projects, analysis, reporting and communications. Directly manage FSS Assistant/Associate Directors as well as the FSS Office Assistant, FSS Event and Finance Manager, and Copy Center Manager
- Oversee various management functions related to FSS and Copy Center teams, including staffing model assessments, training, career development, internal rewards and recognition programs, and temporary staffing needs
- Manage individual support needs of full-time faculty and incoming visiting faculty and lecturers, tailoring support assignments and space allocation to ensure a coordinated and effective delivery of support services across the school
- Maintain and update space assignment information, and serve as a resource for teaching faculty
- Design and implement programs and initiatives that improve service provision and enhance the work experiences of faculty assistants and Copy Center employees, to drive engagement and sense of community
- Develop new faculty support models, pilot programs, benchmarking, and implement appropriate metrics to ensure FSS' success
- Hire, train, and develop staff for various work assignments within the FSS structure
- Evaluate existing FSS and Copy Center structures and processes to ensure they are operating at an optimal level throughout HLS; improve the infrastructure to balance flexibility in response to changing needs with consistency in high quality standards
Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of progressive work experience in an administrative management role. Proven skills in managing people, projects, and budgets is essential.

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding service orientation and the ability to engage and inspire people
- Patience with complicated decision-making structures, a sense of humor, and a genuine interest in the work of HLS
