Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of an assigned administrator, develop and maintain a comprehensive, effective, and competitive California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) and Southern California Football Association (SCFA) football program. Direct all football activities, schedule and coordinate football program and related events, oversee recruitment of student athletes, and cultivate productive relationships with District and College staff, outside agencies, organizations, students, and parents. Supervise, train, and manage the performance of assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serve as Head Coach for GCCCD Football Program.

Assist with student-athlete academic retention and success. Manage the entire life cycle of football services and meet continual program improvement goals. Generate revenue for College and Athletics Department through athletics sports facilities management and rentals.

Assume management responsibilities for all aspects of the football program as it relates to facilities, schedules, athlete eligibility, physical examinations, equipment, transportation, and insurance; assist with game supervision and management of home athletic contests.

Recommend for hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and other staff associated with the program as assigned.

Work with the assigned or appropriate administrator to develop short and long-range planning for student success, including student academic progress, matriculation, and degree completion and/or transfer; and for the success of the GCCCD Athletics program at the local and state levels.

Ensure that all student-athlete recruiting goals are met. Oversee outreach and student-athlete recruitment for football program, including planning and coordinating student recruiting visits; develop, maintain, and coordinate recruiting database and notification system.

Develop, allocate, and monitor the football program budget and ensure budgetary compliance; approve and direct the purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials connected with the football program.

Assist the assigned or appropriate administrator with fundraising, sponsorship initiatives, and internal and external events as needed.

Develop and assist in the preparation of a variety of regular and ad hoc statistical and narrative reports. Maintain records and files related to assigned operations and programs; compile football program statistics and reports as required.

Assist the assigned or other appropriate administrator in ensuring continuity, equity, and compliance within the football program; remain current on all new legislation impacting the football program and keep football program faculty and staff informed.

Establish and maintain an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athlete that fosters collaboration with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and the public.

Participate in and represent the Athletic Department at community events in compliance with CCCAA bylaws.

Support College departments/divisions with collaborative efforts to ensure the football program's academic compliance through contribution in curriculum development and the assessment of student learning outcomes.

Develop and execute fundraising efforts to augment the operations of the football program and related athletic budgets.

Actively participant in the community in the promotion of the football program, Athletics Department, and College.

Serve as a liaison between, and cultivate relationship with, administrators, personnel, parents, students, boosters, and outside agencies.

Cover short-term duties in other sports activities as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:

A bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college of university with a major in kinesiology, physical education, education, or a related field plus three (3) years coaching experience at the collegiate level.

The preferred candidate would also have athletic recruiting experience at the collegiate level; supervisory experience; fundraising experience at the collegiate level; and leadership experience reasonably related to a director level administrative assignment.

Driver's License and the ability to be covered by District insurance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Incumbent is required to perform work of an active nature, moving around locations requiring sufficient physical stamina to carry out duties. Requires ambulatory ability to lift medium-to-heavy weight materials, balance, and walk and stand for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity to observe moving objects and recognize physical injuries. Requires auditory ability to project voice to a small group. Lift and move light to moderately heavy (less than 50 pounds) objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May work in an office, gymnasium, and/or outdoors. Since work environments may vary, the noise level can be low to very high depending on the student population and activities. This position may be stationary at times. This person frequently communicates with employees, students, and community. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions (cold, wet and humid) and/hot or humid gymnasium environment(s). The employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens. Travel and evening and weekend hours are often necessary to attend sporting events. Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends, and split schedules.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This classification is designated as a Senior Classified Administrative Employee in accordance with the provisions of Education Code Section 88091(c)(1) and the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Rules and Regulations for the Classified Service section 3.3(b). As such, in accordance with section 3.3(b)(1), the incumbent "shall continue to be afforded all of the rights, benefits and burdens of any other classified employee serving in the regular service of the district, except they shall not attain permanent status in an executive secretarial position or that administrative position" and instead will be employed on a contractual basis with the district.
