What We Are Looking For

The Director of the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation (OALA) provides strategic direction and coordination of Baylor University's work in support of students with accommodations. The Director oversees the policies and procedures for the granting of learning accommodations for all Baylor students, both undergraduate and graduate, and supervises a university testing center for students with accommodations. The Director also serves on the Leadership Team for the Paul L. Foster Success Center.

A Bachelor's Degree, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Master's Degree and eight years of relevant work experience are preferred.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do
  • Facilitate and oversee student accommodations
  • Direct and oversee Accommodation Specialists in the delivery of appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Main point of contact to receive, carefully consider, and respond to accommodation appeals from students and parents in accordance with OALA policy
  • Oversee and support transportation accommodations when appropriate
  • Work with OALA staff to manage various office support systems, including but not limited to Accommodate and Access for accurate record-keeping and campus communication
  • Supervise and support the testing center
  • Oversee and ensure that the testing center has the necessary resources to provide requisite support to students with accommodations
  • Oversee and assist in communicating with both faculty and students regarding testing protocols
  • Facilitate communication between Accommodation Specialists and testing center staff
  • Provide direct support during midterm and final exams in the administration of the testing center
  • Develop and manage campus partnerships for support of students with accommodations
  • Liaise with partners in the Office of General Counsel, Campus Living & Learning, the Care Team, Success Center leadership, the Equity Office, University Compliance and Risk Services, faculty, and the wider campus community
  • Represent OALA at campus events, including orientation, professional development events across the university and, on occasion, in support of meetings with academic leadership in the Office of the Provost
  • Attend Success Center leadership team meetings, Care Team meetings, University compliance meetings, and others as needed
  • Manage and support staff
  • Meet regularly with direct reports
  • Meet consistently with entire OALA staff
  • Provide appropriate technology and resources for staff in support of students
  • Develop and manage departmental budget
  • Provide appropriate professional development opportunities for all employees
  • Review and, when applicable, rewrite policies and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 as well as OCR, DOJ, and HUD regulations as they apply to access in higher education
  • Ensure and implement a consistent policy regarding the presence of service animals and emotional support animals on campus
  • Review relevant policies and procedures annually in consultation with the Office of General Counsel and University Compliance and Risk Services to ensure compliance in the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
