Purpose of Position
Performs routine entry-level, hydraulic and/or traction elevator preventive maintenance work such as preventive maintenance tasks, repairs elevator mechanical systems, and maintains hoist ways, mechanical rooms, pits, and car tops in good working order.

Essential Functions
Identifies and maintains safety controls, counterweights, door mechanisms, and components such as valves, ratchets, seals, and brake linings.

Performs preventive maintenance on hydraulic and traction elevators, using hand, power tools, and testing devices. Supports trouble shooting process of failed systems to determine root cause of the problem and necessary corrective measures.

Identifies and maintains guide shoes and rollers to minimize the lateral motion of cars as they travel through shafts.

Assists in the inspection of safety regulations and building codes are met. Generates complete service reports verifying conformance to standards and codes.

Assures proper connections of simple electrical wiring to control panels and electric motors.

Maintains mechanical, electrical, and control systems such as locks, gears, cables, electric wiring, electronic components and safety controls.

Inspects cab alignments and clearances in hoist ways to ensure that equipment will operate properly.

Performs preventive maintenance on outer doors and door frames at elevator entrances on each floor of a structure

Locates malfunctioned signal and control systems using test equipment. Maintains log books that detail all repairs and checks performed.

Tests newly installed equipment to ensure that all systems are operating as designed.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Works various schedules and is required to carry a pager and be On-call.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.

One year of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
