Position Information

Hiring Department: Information Technology, Enterprise Computing

Posting End Date: Open until filled

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm; the work schedule for this position requires on-call availability, and at times work will be performed on weekends or occasional holidays. Occasional travel may be required.

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: $70,149 annually

The primary accountabilities are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under close supervision but with latitude for the use of independent judgment, designs, implements, and assists to maintain critical University-wide computer servers and databases; codes, tests, and implements physical databases using relational database management system (Microsoft SQL Server).

Essential Functions

Responsible for critical databases that affect University-wide deployments such as University web pages, student information system, and datamarts.



Designs logical and physical databases or reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes to be made affect physical database (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics such as location, amount of space, and access methods.



Creates advanced database objects such as tables, views, functions, and stored procedures using standard database languages such as Structured Query Language (SQL) as well as vendor-specific procedural database languages such as T-SQL or PL/SQL.



Calculates optimum values for database parameters such as amount of computer memory and processor requirements.



Designs database security based upon requirements and existing University policies.



Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data.



Establishes and maintains database installation configurations.



Modifies database schema and stored procedures to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning.



Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to databases and database objects.



Creates and maintains documentation for new projects.



Must be available on an on-call basis, weekends, and holidays as needed.



Assists with special projects, as needed.



Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software and systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility

and

Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualified Applicants Should Demonstrate:

Working knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Unix.

Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Engine and Microsoft SQL Server Agent operations.

Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server management with Powershell.

Occasional travel may be required.
