Position Summary
The Laredo Medical Center- University of Incarnate Word Family Medicine Residency Program is the result of a partnership between the Laredo Medical Center and the graduate medical education branch of the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine- the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (TIGMER). The main objective of this program is to educate and train physicians in the specialty of family medicine and encourage these residents to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community-based, distributed.
This position is a part-time position and equal to 0.25 FTE. The physician will work with the program director and other faculty to direct the development of curriculum and rotations and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies. Core faculty members report directly to the program director and the UIWSOM Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education. The core faculty physician will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence and learner-centered curricula.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.
Essential Functions
Provide or ensure the provision of specialty specific level-appropriate education of residents in the residency program, ensuring that such education adequately prepares residents (in conjunction with their own studying), for the specialty board exams as well as for active clinical practice as manifest by passing rates at or near 100%
Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, matching, and onboarding of residents for the residency program
Ensure the quality of care provided by residents in the program is of the highest caliber, and that lapses in quality are appropriately investigated, resolved, and used to improve processes and education
Provide didactic instruction for residents as assigned
Participate in the Residency Advisory Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, and Program Review Committee and other committees as assigned
Supervise residents in the clinical setting
Other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Assistant Dean for GME

Required Education
D.O. or M.D. degree from an accredited U.S. medical school
Required Work Experience
Must be physically present in Laredo for a significant portion of their time allotted to the program
Preferred Qualifications
Experience on faculty of residency program
Ability to communicate effectively in both
English and Spanish
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas
Board certification in Family Medicine
