Job Description:

The Department of Early Childhood Education at Massasoit Community College is looking for dynamic and engaged educators to join its faculty. The candidate must be comfortable with the use of technology in the classroom as well as having a working knowledge of course delivery systems such as Instructure Canvas. The position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities, including serving on a minimum of one all-college committee, participation in curriculum and course development, departmental planning, attendance at departmental, divisional, and college meetings, student advising and other duties, as assigned and outlined in the MCCC agreement.

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Teach fifteen hours in Early Childhood Education course offerings between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Teach the full spectrum of courses offered by the Early Childhood Education and Administration Department including Practicum and Seminar courses and the Young Child with Special Needs.
  • Write reports, participate in all aspects of accreditation and program reviews.
  • Work on state-wide committees, serve on advisory boards, maintain professional memberships, work with community partnerships, local early childhood programs, EEC, and collaborate with personnel supported through external funding.
  • Assume department chair responsibilities on a rotational basis.
  • Collaborate with community and college-partners to ensure high quality placement settings, coordinate placement of student teachers, and recruit new placement sites.
  • Show active engagement in the classroom, in college life, and in activities with the student body.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of an earned Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or closely aligned field is required.
  • EEC Lead Teacher certification or equivalent.
  • Five years direct early childhood experience including experience teaching young children with special needs.
  • Knowledge and experience with Quality Rating Improvement Systems as well as familiarity with NAEYC Standards for early childhood programs and higher education.
  • Field experience supervising early childhood education student teachers.
  • Three years full or part-time teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting and should have knowledge of the mission and goals of the College.
  • Familiarity with the use of technology in the classroom and have excellent computing skills including use of email and a willingness to be trained to use the College's BANNER system.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with a variety of academic, professional and lay audiences in print and presentation formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DESE Educator's License or equivalent is a plus.
  • Doctoral degree.
  • Familiar with the use of Instructure Canvas (or other similar course management system) and has experience with alternative teaching delivery systems (online and hybrid courses).
  • Knowledge about working with and strategies for teaching students with diverse learning styles, diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and different levels of preparation and ability.

Additional Information:

Full-time benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) position.

Term of appointment: This is a full-time, tenure track position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA Agreement.

Salary: $44,874.00 - $62,640.00 annually, Salary is commensurate and based on the MCCC Classification Study.

Supervisor: Division Dean, Public Service/Social Science

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites.
