Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Graphic Designer Intermediate leads efforts to determine design needs. Uses current graphics applications to create original designs for print and electronic promotional materials for legal professionals. Ensures adherence to brand standards. Completes HTML templates and schedules marketing emails. Obtains original copy and edits as needed. Coordinates efforts to fulfill artwork needs including managing photoshoots. Coordinates and tracks projects along with other administrative tasks. May include contributions to website design.

Responsibilities*
50% - Support the success of various communication/promotional campaigns by creating original designs and modifying and/or directing the modification of templates in a variety of media. Includes communication, collaboration, and copyediting:
  • Design and produce print collateral including: brochures, ads, flyers, letters, and signs. Coordinate final output with service providers (internal and external)
  • Ensure designs adhere to established brand guidelines. Work with Multimedia Designer Brand and Development Design to identify needed variation and document decisions
  • Design and produce electronic collateral to support communication/promotion campaigns including social media pages, web pages, online ads, photo carousels, and microsites including HTML and CSS
  • Create and edit original copy for style, content, organization, effectiveness, and parameters of associated delivery platform
  • Produce and send email to support assigned campaigns
  • Ensure accuracy and effectiveness of collateral. Includes proofreading, cross-checking, and coordinating proofing and planning process with multiple other departments
  • Ensure budget compliance on assigned projects. Communicate schedule to vendors
  • Communicate and coordinate with others as needed to obtain original copy. Edit or ensure the timely editing by others to fit style, voice, audience, and length requirements following direction and samples. Create headlines.
  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders, discuss drafts, and gain approvals
  • Track and report progress of assigned projects

30% - Lead efforts to determine design needs for specific campaigns to support product sales:
  • Understand the project audience, purpose, and strategic goals
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing department to determine design needs to support campaign goals. Lead design meetings for individual projects
  • Seek feedback and approval through presentation of concepts
  • Coordinate with Multimedia Designer Brand and Development Design to effectively plan for associated web components
  • Collaborate in the creation of project schedules.

15% - Lead and coordinate efforts to fulfill artwork needs to support campaign, website, and other projects as needed:
  • In collaboration with the Marketing department and Multimedia Designer Brand and Development Design, determine photography and other artwork needs for various projects
  • Choose or supervise the selection of appropriate stock photography
  • Determine needs, plan for, arrange, and direct photo shoots. Includes attending events to capture photos

5% - Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent, in addition to 4-6 years of experience in Web and print design
  • Proven ability to create concepts for marketing campaigns that apply marketing/design principles in print and electronic media
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design meetings, discuss concepts, and drafts directly with clients, and document decisions
  • Understanding of marketing/design principles and principles of corporate identity for print and web
  • Experience applying brand guidelines to projects
  • Demonstrated experience producing timely, accurate, well-designed materials
  • Expert level proficiency in industry graphics software, such as InDesign and other Adobe products including Dreamweaver
  • Experience outputting files for printing
  • Experience arranging and directing photographers and photoshoots
  • Proficient in HTML and CSS
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects; excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to work well with others
  • Knowledge of Web-based technologies
  • Understanding of database integration with web
  • Able to successfully complete a work sample administered by ICLE

Desired Qualifications*
  • Professional experience in advertising or marketing-related environment is preferable
  • Familiarity with University of Michigan structure, resources, and policies or development setting
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing
  • Experience with UI/UX design
  • Website development and authoring experience
  • Creative copywriting skills a plus
