ITTA Learning Spaces Technical Engineer

  • Responsibilities:
    The position assists with the management of the equipment, facilities, scheduling, staffing and deployment of systems in classrooms, computer labs and computer resource centers.
    • Manages all Macomb campus computer classrooms, labs and computer resource centers consisting of approximately macOS and Windows computers, including hardware, software, equipment and facilities maintenance.
    • Creates, maintains and deploys operating system images, applications, and other software for Windows and macOS computers using SCCM, DeployStudio and Apple Remote Desktop.
    • Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs printers, scanners, and other hardware in all labs and computing resource centers.
    • Provides tier II and III support to end users by troubleshooting, maintaining, configuring, and installing operating systems; applications; anti-virus; network clients; and a variety of hardware, including various types of peripherals and software necessary to support their operation.
    • Develops and maintains technical and operational documentation and process improvements for labs and CRCs.
    • Provides training, subject matter expertise and support to tier I Technology Support Services staff to improve first contact resolution of classroom and lab issues.
    • Maintains inventory, procurement, and replenishment processes for labs.
    • Manages student payroll software and processes for all uTech units.
    • Creates, maintains, ensures compliance with Federal Work Study funds, and terminates student employment authorizations.
    • Administers, supports, deploys, and coordinates with vendors and colleagues to advocate for and maintain server-based applications and services.
    • Creates and maintain scripts to simplify and streamline important and/or common tasks.
    • Assists server team with Active Directory and group policy management and maintenance functions.
    • Co-coordinates lab computer hardware and software upgrades for WIU faculty and staff.
    • Assists with the management of student employees, including scheduling, staffing, evaluating performance, resolving conflicts, coaching, and mentoring.
    • Assists with computer lab technology standards, guidance, and processes, based on best practices, data, and evaluation.
    • Keeps accurate and timely record of activities performed in designated department application.
    • Acts as Information Technology security liaison between LS and IT Security Team
    • Maintains higher level understanding of networking, infrastructure, hardware, various operating systems, and software.
    • Maintains current knowledge of University business services, policies, and procedures.
    • Provides support for University electronic classrooms.
    • Provides support for Desktop & Hardware Services area of unit.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management systems, information sciences, or a related field

    or

    Three years of work experience comparable to that of an AV consultant
    • Experience with planning, design, implementation, and support of Windows and macOS computers in an enterprise environment.
    • Three year experience using SCCM, or other image/application deployment software in an enterprise environment.
    • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining technology equipment, including printers, scanners, and other peripheral hardware.
    • Experience working in a multi-platform client-server environment, including Microsoft, UNIX, Linux, or macOS.
    • Programming and/or scripting skills.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience.
    • Demonstrated understanding of project management.
  • Starting Salary: $3717/month
