Position description

Artist/Lecturer, UCSB Department of Art, Fall 2021-22

The Department of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach in the upcoming summer session and 2021-22 academic year. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue throughout the year as needed. The number of courses and positions available varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department.

We are interested in applicants with a developed art practice, research interests, and/or teaching experience who are keen to work with a large, diverse student population across the multiple interdisciplinary contexts available within an R1 public university. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

Applicants may have an emphasis in any one of the areas listed below, or expertise across a broad range of contemporary art practices and visual maker culture: Drawing, Painting, Print/Publication Arts, Photography, Design and New Media, Digital Video/Animation/VR/AI, Performance, spatial, public and land-based practices in Sculpture, Site-specific Installation, Computational Craft, Physical Computing, Haptic Media, Environmental Art and Placemaking, Visual Literacy and Critical Theory, Art/Science, Performance, Sound, Social and Publicly-engaged Practices. Courses needed may include introductory through advanced, hands-on studio, large lecture, and seminar models of instruction.

Appointments could vary from quarter to quarter from single or multiple courses that align with qualified applicants. Positions may include multiple classes and range from one quarter to one year with the possibility of renewable reappointment.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    MFA/MA or an equivalent graduate level degree (e.g. MA from another country), or a BFA/BA and minimum of one year of teaching in contemporary arts or related/relevant fields.

Preferred qualifications

    Some college or university teaching experience, such as a Teaching Assistant or other relevant training, as well as a portfolio of projects demonstrating experience in the visual arts and related interdisciplinary fields.
