Position Description
Identifies technologies with commercial applications; evaluates the commercial potential of inventions; identifies potential licensees; prepares non-confidential, technical information for marketing purposes; develops and implements specific marketing strategies for each technology; drafts and negotiates license agreements and other types of agreements including material transfer, collaboration, inter-institutional and nondisclosure agreements.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Engage and educate faculty about Intellectual Property through participation in meetings, seminars, and training sessions. 10%
  • Maximize the number of invention disclosures filed with the ORC through investigation of current research programs to discover patentable subject matter, engagement with researchers and students, and outreach to make researchers aware of our office. 20%
  • Be responsible for the case management of invention disclosures in assigned areas, working with faculty to identify, evaluate, protect, market and license University technologies. Maintain good communications with researchers at all steps in the process. 20%
  • Develop and implement a commercialization strategy for active technologies in the portfolio and market the technologies to create leads with potential license partners. Attend conferences to present technologies to potential industry partners. Use the information gained in this process to guide faculty in future research efforts and to help make sound decisions on future patent filings. 20%
  • Draft and negotiate the terms of option and license agreements for System technologies in the portfolio, including setting fees, royalty structures, and milestones events and payments. Also create and manage other agreements including NDAs and IIAs. 10%
  • Support/mentor university start-up companies through the technology licensing process. Work with the Innovation Hub teams to help them understand the patenting and licensing processes. 10%
  • Assist the Managing Director Licensing in the enforcement of operating policies and developing new policies where needed. 5%
  • Assist the Managing Director in patent portfolio prosecution and maintenance matters where needed. 5%




Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree plus two (2) years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Possible degrees: Ph.D, M.B.A., J.D., M.S., B.S., B.A. Preferred years of experience: 2-5.
