Job Description Summary
The Lighting Supervisor is responsible for the coordination, communication, supervision and execution of all theatrical lighting activities, systems, equipment and infrastructure in all Penn Live Arts venues, participating university partner venues as well as event lighting for off-site Penn Live Arts functions.

Primary duties of this position include but are not limited to; design and maintenance of repertory light plots in all Penn Live Arts venues, preparation and dissemination of Vectorworks light plots, Lightwright paperwork, show files, and magic sheets, maintenance and upkeep of all theatrical lighting equipment and infrastructure, coordination, supervision and/or participation in all electrics department activities, advancing lighting needs with touring companies, rental clients and student organizations, brokering shared lighting plots as needed, supervision of Penn Live Arts Staff Master Electrician and coordination with IATSE 8 Head Electrician.

The Lighting Supervisor will be a collaborative hands-on member of the production team, actively participating in lighting hangs, focuses, programming and running shows on house (ETC) consoles, supervising house crew and over-hire in lighting related activities, and assisting other departments as needs arise.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, draft and maintain repertory lighting plots for all Penn Live Arts venues; maintaining up-to-date Vectorworks draftings, Lightwright paperwork, control show files, and magic sheets.
  • Advance light plots and paperwork for Penn Live Arts & guest programming - work to reconcile the lighting needs of visiting companies with lighting needs of interspersed rental events and necessary operational downtime.
  • Supervise Annenberg Technical Staff, IATSE Crews or non-union overhire crews on all theatrical lighting work.
  • Perform duties and functions of Lighting Designer, Assistant Lighting Designer, Master Electrician, Programmer, Electrician/Deck Electrician, Board Operator, or follow spot as needed.
  • Coordinate lighting equipment rentals as needed for all Penn Live Arts programs and events.
  • Maintain all theatrical lighting systems and infrastructure - perform software and hardware updates as needed and communicate all changes to the production staff. Assist with coordination of architectural control systems as needed.
  • Work with Director of Production on inventory management, strategic equipment upgrades and realistic replacement plans for all theatrical lighting infrastructure.


Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree and 2-3 years of experience as a Theatrical Master Electrician, Production Electrician, Lighting Supervisor or other Lighting Department Head Position, or equivalent combination of education and experience are required; 3 to 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Expert level knowledge of ETC Eos family consoles (including now-legacy Ion and Element), ETC Dimmers, DMX addressing and protocol, incandescent and LED theatrical lighting fixtures, intelligent/moving lights, power distribution, Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright.
  • Candidates should have significant experience as a Lighting Designer or Assistant Lighting Designer and must be comfortable designing lighting plots, interpreting other's light plots, creating or editing Lightwright paperwork, writing cues from rep plots/magic sheets and brokering shared light plots between disparate stakeholders.
  • Other requirements include excellent verbal/written communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (preferably O365).
  • It is preferred that candidates have experience working in IATSE venues, portable power distribution, working knowledge of video projection (equipment and systems), QLab, ETCP Entertainment Electrician certification, and have experience with non-ETC consoles (Hog, MA).
