ABOUT THE POSITON
The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. DUTIES:

  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's in journalism or communication with a specialization in journalism; OR,
  • Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in English, history, communication, literature, composition, comparative literature, any social science, business, business administration, marketing, graphics or photography; OR,
  • The equivalent

All candidates must demonstrate
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  • Newsroom experience, preferably in writing, editing, producing, or content management.
  • Experience teaching courses such as newswriting, journalism business and ethics, reporting, and photojournalism to journalism majors and others interested in the field.
  • Experience or expertise teaching in journalism lecture and laboratory settings.
  • Experience or expertise teaching the production of multimedia content design on such platforms as print media, digital media, and social media.
  • Must have the skills and mindset required to teach diverse students and prepare them to cover diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in Online and In-Person Instruction
