Job Description:
The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University invites applicants for a non-tenure track Professor of Practice in Music Industry, beginning Fall 2024. The position offers a 3-year renewable contract based on exemplary performance and University need.We are seeking an entrepreneurial and inspiring music industry professional to teach core curriculum courses in music business and music industry and the media; oversee music industry forums; mentor and coordinate student internships; participate in curriculum planning, assessment and new course development. The ideal candidate will have industry experience in one or more of the following areas: hip-hop, songwriting, Latin music, and R&B. Other responsibilities for this position include academic advising for both music industry majors and minors and participation in governance and service to the institution.The Setnor School of Music is committed to seeking candidates whose personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity will contribute to the advancement of equity, diversity, and cultural wealth.

Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in music or business with documented recent music industry experience OR a bachelors degree in music or business with significant professional experience in the music industry.
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following areas: hip-hop, songwriting, Latin music, jazz, and R&B is a plus.


Job Specific Qualifications:
The school is particularly interested in candidates who have the communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.Experience, expertise, and working knowledge of all aspects of the music industry. Past and current research and/or teaching experience relating to industry trends and challenges, technological advancements, global issues and initiatives relating to digital music, intellectual property rights and music use in various aspects of media, marketing and sound recording technology.

Industry experience in one or more of the following areas: hip-hop, songwriting, Latin music, and R&B is a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching core curriculum courses in music business and music industry and the media.
  • Overseeing music industry forums.
  • Coordinating and mentoring student internships.
  • Participating in curriculum planning, assessment and new course development.
  • Serving as an academic advisor for music industry majors and minors.
  • Participating in governance and service to the department, college and university.



This may include program development, community outreach, and accreditation and assessment-related activities.
