About the Position

Reporting to the Chair of Art + Design, the Senior Academic Program Manager will support student services, provide academic program management, financial oversight, and personnel supervision for the Department of Art + Design. The incumbent will aim to enhance the student experience by developing comprehensive infrastructures for student services, including academic and career advising, while also addressing and managing student feedback. Collaborating with various stakeholders, such as administrative officers, advisors, and faculty, the Senior Academic Program Manager will create an inclusive and intellectually stimulating culture for students and coordinate recruitment strategies, events, and materials to engage prospective students. The incumbent will manage academic programs and curricula by overseeing curriculum development, ensuring that learning outcomes are met, and participating in committees related to teaching, learning and curriculum development.

The Senior Academic Program Manager will oversee program budgeting, financial resources, and data organization, providing financial oversight and generating reports on spending and revenue. The incumbent will support human resources initiatives, compile information on faculty accomplishments, and maintain personnel files and databases. Supervisory duties involve directly managing administrative officers and assisting with the supervision of temporary, contract, and student employees.

The Senior Academic Program Manager requires strong leadership, organization, and communication skills. The ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to ensure the successful operation of student services, academic programs, finances, and personnel management within the College of Arts, Media and Design are critical.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • 4-6 years of professional operational experience required; experience in higher education strongly preferred.
  • A successful candidate will have an interest in academic leadership and possess a strong leadership and managerial background.
  • Sound judgement, excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to demonstrate initiative and motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize projects and multiple, competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness, and quality of work.
  • Must have a strong team-orientation and flexible approach to work.
  • Advanced MS Office proficiency, including SharePoint, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and research skills. Experience with Workday a plus.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Student Services (20%)
  • In collaboration with Administrative Officers, develop infrastructures for student services, including academic advising and career advising, for all students at the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels.
  • Address and manage student feedback to ensure an inclusive and intellectually stimulating culture for students.
  • Manage temporary, contract, and student employees.
  • Develop and support recruitment, marketing, and outreaching initiatives for prospective students.
  • Identify potential student employment opportunities in collaboration with coop faculty and industry/organizational partners.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for prospective students regarding academic programs.
  • In collaboration with faculty and advisors, organize townhall meetings for students; participate in student welcome events.


Academic Program Management (40%)
  • In coordination with faculty, manage curriculum and the development of priority learning initiatives.
  • Manage curricular offerings across the network.
  • Oversee student pathways and plans of study for programs to meet programmatic learning outcomes.
  • Oversee the portfolio of NUpath attributes in our course offerings.
  • Support Division heads on scheduling issues and new course proposals.
  • Participate as a non-voting member on the Teaching & Learning and Curriculum committees.
  • Coordinate and communicate issues that are important for our academic programs to faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates program assessment in exchange with program coordinators, and recommends changes to program's content, policies, and procedures. Administer student surveys.


Administrative Support (20%)
  • With oversight from Department Chair and Faculty leadership, lead program budgeting; provide financial oversight and generate quarterly reports on spending and revenue.
  • Provide recommendations on operational and budget process issues that have a department-wide impact.
  • Oversee the hiring and management of part-time faculty; provide onboarding support as needed.
  • Create weekly newsletter for faculty and students highlighting department news and faculty accomplishments.
  • Ensure that department personnel files and databases are maintained.


Staff Supervision (20%)
  • Directly manage and mentor two Administrative Officers.
  • Assist with the management of temporary, contract, and student workers.


Financial Measures

This position supports annual expenditures in excess of 3.7 million (including salary) in approximately 50 indexes associated with the Department of Art + Design faculty internal and external funds.

Supervision

This position supervises two Administrative Offers and may assist in the support of student employees, coop employees, and temporary non-student staff. This position will also provide support to Part Time Faculty hires.
