What We're Looking For

The Sr. Database Administrator role is part of the Information Systems and Services Database team supporting Oracle and SQLServer databases across campus. This position support the mission of the University by providing database, system upgrade and server support for on premise application systems supporting the administrative systems for the University.

A Bachelor's Degree, three years of relevant experience and an active Christian faith are required. A Master's degree and up to five years of relevant experience is preferred.

A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
  • Experience supporting, cloning and maintaining database environments (Oracle or SQLServer preferred).
  • Experience with job scheduling tools. Automic job scheduler preferred.
  • Linux experience with Oracle
  • Linux shell scripting experience (job scheduling, software installation scripts, programs)
  • Technical expertise with data extraction techniques, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Technical experience with applying application and database upgrades. Oracle Critical patch updates, applying security vulnerability updates, version updates for certain application systems.
  • Server and Middleware administrative experience.
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design, data mining/segmentation techniques, and SQL
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner Student Administrative System

Work will be performed in an approved remote / hybrid work environment that may include travel to Waco for on-campus/in-person activities/meetings as required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do
  • Provide data analysis and database design.
  • Facilitate data-driven application design and implementation.
  • Works with vendors, campus constituents on setting up and implementing databases for project implementations or research (On-premises or cloud).
  • Serves as the environment server administrator for certain campus database application systems hosted on premise. (Banner Student, U.achieve, Automic Scheduler).
  • Manages the cloud environment configurations and coordination for selective systems including scheduling data refreshes or environment refreshes.
  • Performs environment configuration management as it relates to cloud systems, on premise databases or other software required to maintain campus application systems.
  • Serves as a liaison with DMBS and DBMS tools vendors.
  • Serves in positions of project leadership, particularly in regard to upgrades and conversions of third-party software releases that impact campus databases.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
