The Facilities Department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking a qualified individual for a current opportunity as Senior HVAC Mechanic! We are looking for a team member who is detail-oriented, organized and an effective communicator. The incumbent will need to have knowledge of practices and techniques in the supervision, scheduling, assigning of tasks. Leads and performs skilled, advanced journey-level duties in the inspection, installation, repair and servicing of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration and related equipment, machinery and facilities. We are looking for someone who has graduated from high school, or at minimum, a GED equivalency. Additionally, the candidate will have six (6) years of journey-level experience in the heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration trade; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Duties


GENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision, schedules, assigns, leads and performs skilled, advanced journey-level duties in the inspection, installation, repair and servicing of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration and related equipment, machinery and facilities; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSSenior HVAC Mechanic is a working crew leader responsible for scheduling, assigning, inspecting and performing advanced journey-level responsibilities such as, installing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a wide variety of large, complex heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment at District facilities. Assignments vary, encompass a variety of tasks, seldom require detailed instructions, and require sound judgment and initiative.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:Education, Training and Experience:Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and six (6) years of journey-level experience in the heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration trade; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: 1. May require a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. 2. California EPA Section 608 Certification. 3. California HVAC Journeyman Certification from a union, trade or vocational school, or C-20 Contractors License. Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

        (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)
    Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.
    Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
