Job Summary: The Social Work (SW) program at Salt Lake Community College is seeking a part-time social work program associate to guide students effectively through the specified sequence of education coursework required for the BHT Certificate and other related social work certificates and degrees. The social work program associate will do an academic review of all social work alumni students, current social work students nearing graduation, and students at any point in their declared social work major. This is a 12-month position with the potential for annual renewal, contingent on institutional funding. The position is currently funded for 2 years with state grant funding.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Under the direction of the BHT Certificate Faculty Lead, the social work program associate will collaborate with Social Work program students and identify both alumni and students graduating within one semester to ensure they have taken and successfully completed all of their BHT required courses.

The social work program associate will create advising outlines for interested students and check in with them at the beginning, middle and end of each semester.

The SW Program Associate will work with the Internship/Community Outreach ambassador to interview ready students for placement and outline the courses and course pace necessary for their success.

The SW Program Associate will report to and meet frequently with the the BHT Certificate Faculty Lead.

This part-time position requires 20 hours of work per week at various campus locations and will also require scheduled meetings with students to complete curricular reviews.

This position may occasionally require the candidate to receive phone calls and respond to emails outside of business hours to meet the needs of our students, alumni and community members.
  1. Collaborate and coordinate with the Social Work faculty members (including, at times, social work adjuncts), on all significant issues related to certificate completion, including the distribution of grant funding to meet coordinator/advising needs.
  2. Meet regularly with the social work faculty & students. And occasionally with existing community partners.
  3. In coordination with the SW faculty and SW Field Coordinator, plan and host a wide variety of social work events such as Orientations, Transfer Symposiums, and Completion Celebrations for social work students.
  4. Maintain a social work student file/record system.
  5. Review and monitor social work students program eligibility and progress within field settings.
  6. Communicate with faculty and students in allied/related disciplines regarding potential fit of BHT licensure with their potential coursework, including interviews for intention to complete BHT curricular requirements, deadlines and reminders; student progress, status; etc.
  7. Generate reports.
  8. Provide support for social work students, make referrals to College resources, etc.
  9. In coordination with the academic advising department, help advise social work students in course/semester planning such as course choices (based on transfer institution) and graduation requirements.
  10. Respond to email and phone messages in a timely manner (typically within one business day).
  11. Keep a log of work hours and activities.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate of Science Degree in Social Work or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Social Work or closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The Social Work Program Associate position is integral to the success of the newly created Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) certificate and requires a collaborative and supportive relationship with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Candidate must be organized, able to communicate clearly, and be willing to contribute to the vision and growth of the Social Work program to meet behavioral healthcare needs in creative and innovative ways that support the holistic well-being and growth of Salt Lake Community Colleges Social Work program. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic backgrounds and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities. Ability to learn and use computers and software, such as Canvas and Microsoft 365 (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.) Ability to learn information about the social work program, the College system and resources, etc.
