Job Summary: Love technology and looking for a great diverse work environment? A position as a part-time Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist may be the right job for you! The Accessibility & Disability Services (ADS) is a fun collaborative department within Student Affairs that is focused on access and inclusion for students at Salt Lake Community College.An AT Specilist assists students in learning to use their assistive technology accommodations and assisting in the production of accessible documents. ADS has a variety of exciting assistive technology tools that the chosen applicant will be trained to use, such as the Otter.ai transcription app, Smart Pens, read-aloud software, and more. This position requires an interest in learning new technology, attention to detail, and customer service skills.Flexibility is essential for this collaborative team.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Visually review and compare inaccessible course materials to be able to create new accessible materials in various formats.
  • Demonstrate and train students on assistive technologies: SmartPen, Kurzweil, Otter.ai, Microsoft Dictation, etc.
  • Track and maintain adaptive equipment inventory: charging, clearing data, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Provide assistive software support: installation, user account administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Document student interactions in department database.
  • Run database reports and review Excel spreadsheets.
  • Maintain accurate accommodation records on department spreadsheets on SharePoint to effectively collaborate work with other Service Providers.
  • Act as a reader/scribe for students, which requires effective listening, legible handwriting, typing, clear verbal communication, and ability to read college level material out-loud with ease.
  • Support student accommodated testing as needed.
  • Independently prioritize, problem-solve, and effectively communicate work responsibilities within the department.
  • Maintain a positive work environment as regular collaboration and trust between team members is vital to effectively serve students.
  • Answer phones to address questions and make appointments.
  • Uphold student confidentiality in accordance with ADA and FERPA regulations.
  • Follow the AT Lab Staff guidelines, be dependable, reliable, and exhibit professionalism at all times.
  • Some travel is necessary between campuses.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with people with disabilities and/or diverse work environments. College-level course work in Computer Science or related field. Knowledge of accessibility/assistive technology. Proficiency in basic algebra (MATH 0980 or above). Proficiency using Canvas LMS. Ability to proficiently communicate in Spanish or ASL.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proficiency using and learning new technologies. Ability to document and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to read college level material with ease. Ability to write dictated material. Ability to maintain work appropriate boundaries. Ability to maintain good working relationships across the College with students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications. Strong organizational skills and ability to establish priorities, work independently, and accurately to meet deadlines with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment. Participate in team, department or College meetings, trainings, and activities as appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
