Description

Under general supervision of the District Manager, Tutoring Services and Academic Support Centers, initiates and carries out a variety of activities designed to retain students. Work is generally diversified, requiring the ability to analyze data and situations, exercise judgment, and make decisions within established procedures. Supervision received is general in nature using established policies and general objectives occasionally referring to supervisor for policy clarification or interpretation; may work with other professionals in a team.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assists the Manager in leading the staff in the Academic Support Center as a team.
  • Carries out case management and other activities designed to retain students.
  • Identifies students in need of career planning, special accommodations, and/or counseling.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of workshops designed to retain students, such as time management and personal development topics.
  • Advises and assists students in developing class schedules through identification of course availability, program changes, filled programs, and so forth.
  • Provides information to students related to interviewing and job search techniques; conducts individualized job search sessions.
  • May assist with interest, aptitude, and achievement testing
  • Acts as liaison to community-based organizations/agencies in recruiting prospective students from communities of color and other disabled and disadvantaged minorities.
  • May assist with new student orientations at MATC.
  • Diagnoses learning behaviors, develops strategies and anticipates learning outcomes to help students accomplish their academic goals.
  • Encourages learning and study skill behaviors that help students to accomplish their academic goals.
  • Provides support for standard office software applications and specialized software as related to the center's specialty.
  • Assumes responsibility for up-keep of center and other spaces assigned; establishes and enforces regulations related to center and the equipment used; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; writes requisitions for equipment and/or materials.
  • Assist with the coordination of regional campus tutoring service.
  • Maintains data pertaining to a regional campus center; prepares related worksheets, study guides and reference materials
  • Acts as a liaison between students and faculty.
  • Assist in the coordination of activities of student workers assigned to the center.
  • May serve on MATC committees and task forces or as an advisor for student groups.
  • Participates in in-service training, workshops, and other educational activities as required or assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.


Qualifications


Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Education: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, the Behavioral Sciences (Natural Sciences), or other relevant field with an emphasis in communications or a closely related field.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in adult education tutoring setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and occupational experience. A background in science background in chemistry or anatomy & physiology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • General knowledge of post secondary entry admissions and procedures.
  • Ability to relate effectively to students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of communities of color, community-based organizations, and agencies and the services they provide at the local, state and federal level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • May require bilingual communication both oral and written.
  • Ability to make presentations and conduct workshops.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MATC staff, faculty, students, representatives from outside agencies, business community and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to access and disseminate information using computers and office technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability in taking the initiative to improve customer service and project management.
  • Experience working with diversity, equity and inclusion.


Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the Academic Support Department and is available to start as soon as possible. This position will be working in the area of Natural Sciences.

Hours/Location: This is a full-time, grant-funded, limited term, year round, 40 hour per week, 1.0 FTE position, working 43 weeks per year (school year). Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant. This position is funded through June 30, 2025.

Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Based out of the Milwaukee Downtown campus, 700 W State St, Milwaukee, WI 53233

Salary: This is an hourly position and the pay range is $23.12 - $28.89. Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
