DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Assistant Teacher for our Child Development Center. There are multiple positions available.

Under direction of a Child Development Specialist, assists in the supervision of children and implementing curriculum.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a Short-Term Non-Continuing (STNC), temporary, hourly position, 40 hours per week, $17.62 per hour. Ed Code 88003 authorizes a governing board to hire STNC employees for less than 75% of a school year, up to 180 days.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.

Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn forty (40) hours of sick leave per fiscal year.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalPERS Retirement (contingent upon number of hours worked within the fiscal year)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support institutional success by executing the following duties:

  • Assists in planning and implementing daily program
  • Applies and follows proper safety and emergency procedures
  • Assists in preparing and setting up activities
  • Uses effective positive discipline methods that are respectful of the child
  • Assists in collecting data for maintenance of developmental records
  • Works in cooperation with team members to keep yard and equipment safe and in order
  • Treats all children with dignity and respect
  • Assists in the supervision of the classroom and yard
  • Report to work on time for assigned working hours
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and all-staff meetings
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all Center information and records
  • Performs other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
Often work indoors, but sometimes work outdoors supervising activities during free time or recreation activities; are sometimes exposed to diseases and infections; are sometimes exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable, such as from a noisy classroom; work very near children; often work within inches of other people.

May be required to physically pick up a child; up to 50 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS


Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check; Criminal Records Clearance, Child Abuse Index.
Must successfully complete a Physician's Report and TB Clearance.

Education:
High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must be CPR and First Aide certified (within one year of hire) and meets all training requirements outlined by Community Care Licensing.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Understanding of childcare principles;
Mandated reporting obligations;
Safety principles and practices

SELECTION PROCEDURE

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT(Prior to beginning employment)

  • Within 6 months of employment, must complete required District trainings such as Sexual Harassment Prevention.
