The University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), a comprehensive public research university that is increasing access to excellent higher education, is seeking a Tenured, Full Professor, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing. The College of Nursing boasts of producing highly skilled health care professionals, with more than 60% of nurses in El Paso being alumni of the college, and its graduates consistently outperforming both local and national averages on the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) for registered nurses. The preferred start date for this appointment is in the fall of 2024.

About the University
In 1967, the 60th Texas State Legislature rebranded the University of Texas as The University of Texas System, leading to a change in the school's name to The University of Texas at El Paso. Although the 1967 law officially abbreviated the school's name as U.T. El Paso, it is more frequently known by its trademarked name, UTEP.

About the College of Nursing
The UTEP College of Nursing (CON) was established in 1976 by the University of Texas System as an independent CON. At that time, the CON offered a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and Master of Science in Nursing degree with a variety of concentrations. Since 1976, the growth of the CON consists of increasing admission rates, high retention rates, and an increased number of graduate nursing programs. In 2019, CON received its 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for the nursing undergraduate and master's programs and a five-year initial accreditation from the CCNE for the Doctorate in Nursing Practice program.

Celebrating nearly five decades of excellence, the College of Nursing at UTEP has been a cornerstone in cultivating highly skilled health care professionals. These professionals are in high demand across various health care facilities in Texas, New Mexico, and throughout the United States. A significant indicator of the university's educational quality is that more than 60% of El Paso's nursing workforce are UTEP alumni.

As a leading national research university of the 21st century, The University of Texas at El Paso offers a rich and supportive research environment. This empowers faculty and students from the College of Nursing's baccalaureate and graduate programs to engage in innovative health-related research opportunities. Facilities include a 16,000 square-foot Simulation Center, high-tech classrooms, conference rooms, an advising center, student study rooms and individual faculty offices. Educational programs include undergraduate and graduate programs. The UTEP College of Nursing has students enrolled in the following nursing majors: a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing; a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master of Science in Nursing Education; Master of Science in Nursing Administration; Master of Science and Post-Master Practitioner Certificate: Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner with Primary Care Focus, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan); and Doctor of Nursing Practice, Post-Master.

The UTEP College of Nursing will prepare nursing leaders by providing student-centered nursing programs with academic rigor, integrating evidence-based knowledge in nursing education and clinical practice, and expanding nursing knowledge through health care research locally and binationally.

The Opportunity
The University of Texas El Paso seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as Associate Dean of the College of Nursing for a contracted term of nine months. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and will provide academic leadership in nursing that results in exceptional student learning outcomes, faculty development, and conducts continuous process improvement activities within the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university
A minimum of eight to nine years of experience in the areas of nursing academic administration and academic nursing education
Meet the requirements for tenure
Able to obtain a registered nursing license in the state of Texas

Duties & Responsibilities
Ensures regulatory compliance, programmatic accreditation, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace expectations
Conducts continuous process improvement activities within the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs
Develops and monitors accreditation reports
Fosters an environment of creativity, innovation, responsiveness, and self-responsibility

Knowledge of nursing education program administration and classroom management
Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance, and other regulatory standards such as the Board of Registered Nursing and Advanced Practice Registered Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and other university related accreditation standards
Knowledge of compliance requirements and challenges facing academic nursing programs
Expertise in teaching, clinical practice, and curriculum development within the nursing field
Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within nursing and the health care industry
Ability to recruit for and market education programs
