Position Description
Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represent the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Developing processes and specifications for collecting, preserving, arranging, describing, and providing access to born digital and hybrid archival collections.
  • Creating digital archiving workflows, procedures, and policies.
  • Arranging, describing, and providing access to born-digital archival collections and describing them into finding aids.
  • Ingesting and migrating digital items from a variety of current and legacy media formats.
  • Providing training and guidance to SWC/SCL staff on preserving and migrating born-digital materials.
  • Representing unit as a member of committees or teams as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of professional archival standards, best practices, and technologies for accessioning, arrangement, description, and preservation of digital archival materials.
  • Familiarity with tools and software to ingest, curate, and deliver born-digital archival material, as well as transfer content from a variety of media formats.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively with a team, sometimes across organizational boundaries.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited MLS degree or a Masters degree in public history or another humanities field with coursework in digital preservation, digital archives, or related subjects.
  • Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) certification.
  • Knowledge of digital curation and archival metadata standards, including EAD, Dublin Core, and METS.
  • Experience with training colleagues, especially on technological tools, in a team-based environment.
